i started going to a couple dealers to get prices etc, but this is to be a company car and 6-8 mth wait means little/no tax benefit for the company this financial year.... so .... what would you get if you were still planning to buy something, but couldnt wait?

Do you mean get as a discount? Or get as in car spec?
You'd need to ring around. You may or may not get any discount, if you're even able to find a suitable car, as the dealers may not be willing to sell what they have left (due to the lack of cars left, many are not willing to sell their demos). But even in the past week we've seen people find a car they're happy with, so just call around as much as possible, even to dealers in different states! Good luck!

why do Volkswagen always underestimate the demand for their performance models in Aus?

For me, i was choosing between the R and the BMW 1 sports coupe - 123DD. Factory order within 2-3 months, similar specs and the diesel comes in under the LCT as well i think. Slightly more expensive than a R (+$5-10k) depending on options, and obviously not as fast, but the sports seats and M Sports pack make it quite a nice ride.

.I am in a unique position to pass comment.I took delivery of my Golf R last week and my wife got a 123d with m pack.
Firstly the bmw is very nice, seats are great ,engine smooth barrel loads of torque quick responsive feels light and definitely rwd as if you push it the rear will come out and say hello to you.
Economical ,but not as good as hoped about 10l/100km although mainly city driving.
The R different beast altogether .Much more purposeful from its throbbing exhaust note ,responsive quicker and more controlled/sure footed in terms of handling .
little touches with led driving lights Xenons <that turn around corners >
As my wife said the R is much more masculine
Both nice cars my wife is happy with hers and it is nice to drive but I have no doubt I made the right choice for me .United Grey Golf r 5 door dsg leather sunroof 19 in wheels mdi

It's not just "demand for performance models in Australia", it's demand for the Golf full stop...

My11 Bluetooth

Adaptive Chassis Control
$53,900 or with QLD orc will be approx $56,300 drive away, however I will organise myself once I get the car back home.......
Im pretty happy with that price and I have been told 5mth wait - Do you guys reckon it will be plated a My10 or My11my car with corp plus discount (fleet car) as above without the sunroof, leather and ACC but with dynaudio upgrade came to $59930.89 drive away, there's 4k in taxes and $1359 in dealer delivery charges in that but still I know I couldn't get anywhere near that price here.

In fact, it's half that at between 12.33 and 12.7% (it's very hard to nail exactly, as the "on roads" will be separate due to lawsy82 purchasing out of state).
Dermot I believe gave me an ok deal, vic park VW would only offer a $500 discount off RRP and trust me I went in there three times they wouldn't budge and that's with buying a polo as well.

Yeah - I think maybe you ran into trouble by not taking into account the fact that lawsy82 was paying the onroads separately, I get about 24% if I put in that figure too.
But don't stress, I'm sure if you're even a 1/2 decent person that Dermot will have looked after you. Dermot has been excellent in my correspondence with him.
