But that is the problem. I've gone stupid spending money on new toys around the house (PC's, H/T etc), finshed a bunch of xbox and ps3 games. I'm running out of stuff (aka cash hehe) to keep my mind occupied.starts yelling

Hi everyone,
I'm new here and interested in purchasing a Golf R 5 Door Manual that's pretty much "Fully optioned" except without the sunroof and 19" alloys. I'm not getting the 19" Talladega alloys because I want to get the BBS Motorsports or the Visions and because it is a dealer accessory I've read somewhere that I should purchase it after I get the car so I don't have to pay more stamp duty, LTC, etc.
Also I've read that you can trade in the factory rims, so does anyone know if this is true and if it is, does anyone know how much you get for them?
I've tried to search for the price of the BBS motorsport and Vision alloys but have been unsuccessful so I'd like to know that too if possible.
I've used the Golf R calculator spreadsheet and the cost of the car I want to purchase is a ridiculous $71,219 drive away, this is due to all the taxes especially the LCT. I have been reading the forum and see the wait for delivery could be up to June 2011, THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS!
This weekend I am going to go to a dealer to receive a quote, so any friendly advice would be much appreciated.
ThanksGolf R MY12 - had plans to this and that but you know how it is

Welcome mate.
I WOULD get the rims if I was you. They are a factory option not only a dealer fit.
When you fit them from factory you pay $1300 for 19 inch wheels and 19 inch tyre's.
Keep the tyres and use them on your new 19s , as I'm sure the 19 inch rubber is worth about $1500 alone.
Then sell the rims for $1000 and your good.
Why do you say the car you want is a ridiculous $71k? If you option it to the hilt, to be fair, you gotta pay bud.
Just get a few less options if you can't afford it.
Your best bet though is to see what you can negotiate with the options you want first.2010 MY11 GOLF R - 5DR | DSG | RISING BLUE | DYNAUDIO + ACC + BLUETOOTH + 19s + RNS510 |

Man Utd
The question is how many options do you really need.. I keep banging on about why buy stuff that comes with the car to start with ( Wheels, Tyres, Seats ) so if you start looking at it in a pragmatic light rather than an emotional one you can save heaps. And as mentioned the more you pile on the more tax you pay.
If you havnt chatted with a dealer you havnt got the real price.. to get a really good deal you have to do as much homework as possible to put your self in a decent negotiating position..
Also are you entitled to any corporate discounts, you can apply that o the overall deal but it doesnt make a massive impact.
Some here go and get 3 quotes before striking a deal.. contacting regional dealers appears to have some merit.
I suggest your post is the first step but a long way from getting to a position that you are happy withCurrent Ride: MY 16 Daytona Pearl Grey Audi S3- Performance Pack 1, Sunroof and Driver assist

'I think its ridiculous that you'd fully option a car and not get a sunroof, but thats just me. '
I wouldn't have a car with a sun roof: head room, squeeks, leaks, and chassis stiffness (if I could tell in a road car. lol). Thats just me...too.
How does a loaded R compare to an S3 for equal spec; has anyone identified a crossover point or does the S3 always cost more for similar/like spec? Some items are std in an S3 that are options in the R, leather comes to mind?

An 08 S3 should be gettable for 50K, or more likely less. The Golf R has really stuffed up the S3's resale, haha!
Oh, one thing, you need to get an MY09 S3 in order to get the same Haldex IV AWD system used in the Golf R. Earlier 8P S3s still had the Haldex II setup as found in the Mk5 R32. Mind, the differences seem negligible in real world driving based on comments from owners of earlier model S3s who have driven newer ones.Last edited by Lima; 28-10-2010, 09:38 PM.

No I haven't spoken to a dealer yet, I'm planning to go this weekend to visit the first dealer to get a quote and to see if they give any discounts for getting it fully optioned.
A family member of mine is an employee in the car industry and is allowed a discount but I don't know if this is classed as a corporate discount or if you can apply the discount after you haggle and negotiate a final price.
My plan is to visit as many VW dealers as possible, especially the regional ones and see which one will give me the best quote and then revisit them or call up and compromise a deal.

$71K is not bad considering everything you would get less the sunroof etc.....
Also I see you have 19" BBS replicas on your car, do you know the price of the original ones from the dealer?
Originally posted by dave- View PostI think its ridiculous that you'd fully option a car and not get a sunroof, but thats just me. Really if you want the car, that's the price. If you don't like all the taxes (I don't, so haggled until I got it below the LCT & 5% stamps) you can either lobby the government, choose less options or haggle the dealer.
RRP != actual price.
If people don't mind me asking, what was the amount of the discount people received?
I know it depends on a range of factors but I just want a rough idea of how much discount to receive if the car was fully optioned or standard.Golf R MY12 - had plans to this and that but you know how it is

Here is a link to Fab's car with the BBS replicas
VW dealers do not supply BBS wheels though. Actuall BBS wheels in Australia are available through AMG Australia and are ridiculuously priced. It's not uncommon to cost $8k plus tyres for a set of RS-GT's :/
