Please don't generalise like that - there are a number of friendly, helpful, honest dealers who post on these forums, Dermot included. He's stating facts, and arguably has a far better perspective on the matter than you do. Insulting him and the industry in general isn't going to convince anyone of your argument, IMO.

$62K for all options excluding 19's??? HAHAHAHAHAH yes im sure ( Ultra sarcasm)... So you supposebly spend $62K on a car, but you cant afford to replace the tyres on a 19inch rim?

I have had low profile tyres my whole life... Dented rims, tyre bubbles, side wall damage and yes, the price of rubber. There is no driving or handling difference between 18 and 19 inch wheels... Proven by tyre manufacturers themselves... Its a common sense answer to the fact that I use a whole variety of varying quality roads. Be it dirt, gravel, mud, snow or just the freeway... It works for me...

Just jealousy that you can't do better on the price...

ratedr - How come you can not afford to replace a tyre on a 19inch rim, but supposebly can afford to have "every" extra for $62K... So, you would prefer to pay $2,500 for a navigation system then $1,200 for 19inch wheels? Or yoo prefer to pay $1,500 for a sunroof? But what happens if the sunroof breaks, are you gonna have money to pay for that??

Getting a good price is not about affordability, it's about not getting ripped off... Geez, if Danny can get 16% off, why is $1500 more or 18% so impossible... It's not!!!

Tyres are a waste of money IMO... I invest, travel and have fun with my money... My deposit on the R is from a mere $1k worth of shares I bought 12 months ago in OYM... They were 7c, now approaching 70c... $10k for doing bugger all but investing in gold...

anyway, a bit of an update on my situation. so...the dealer had promised me delivery before the 31st of December as per the "legally binding contract".

i received a call earlier in the week informing me of "complications" - long story short, i was not going to get my car until may

i then proceeded to cancel my order and received my deposit back in full, had a discussion with my fleet manager whom has had dealings with VW before and managed to introduce me to a lovely DP whom assisted with my dealings considerably.

so, another deposit down, fingers crossed that my next post will involve a picture of a shiny new silver golf R to share with you all!

Bemused and uninformed?? You put a $1k deposit down, whats that got to do with anything? When did anyone here care about your deposit? I put $1K down aswell as my deposit - what the fark does that mean????

You invest? What buying $1K worth of shares is investing? You travel? So, purchasing 19inch wheels will stop your "travel" plans......

It's all very well to make statements on here about the deal you got but without evidence it is just another internet story. If you are fair dinkum, post a copy of the contract with all identifying information blanked out, that will prove it one way or the other.
