I've had the APR Stage I ECU in my Polo GTI for over a year now. No issue with the clutch in that. I've also taught two female friends how to drive a manual in it and they haven't managed to kill the clutch. I'm thinking if the clutch even did go, it'd probably be out of warranty. In which case I'd take it down to European Autotech and get them to put in a better clutch anyway!

Recaro (airbag)?
Reading a few threads it sounds like the optional Recaros do away with side airbags.
Can this be confirmed?
This being the case, WTF are VW doing! Both mini and Renault provide excellent and in my opinion better looking Recaros with airbags.
This really puts me off the seats as it is a major safety compromise in the even of the unthinkable!
Now I need to brave a few F&*KING hopeless dealers and sales people while trying pick one of these babies up!

What do you guys think of United Grey Metallic & 19 Silver Alloy Wheels ???
Hi everyone,
I'm looking at colour combo's for the Golf R. Just wondering what do you guys think of United Grey Metallic
with 19's Silver Alloy Wheels ???
What does everyone think is the best colour combo? I realise its a matter of opinion and you need to see the
car in the flesh but just interest in your reasons behinf colour choice.

So it's lucky that the only colour they offer is a good one, and you should go with that
That being said, it also looks good in United Grey. It's not bad for a tone.
White is boring. Silver is boring. The majority of cars sold in Australia are white and silver, so meh
Black hides detail and absorbs heat, so don't like it either.
But then, that's just my opinion. If enough people cared to reply to you, you will literally get people who will vouch for every possible combination available (as we have had in other "what colour should I get" threads in the past - making anyone elses opinion pointless.
Do YOU like it? If so, get it. That's all that matters

When I was at the dealers I was lucky enough to be handed the keys to their demo car and was told to take the car for test drive for as long as I needed. Coming from a chipped GTI (mkv) to the Golf R, which was DSG, I noticed that the turbo lag is substantial however this might be a result of the DSG changing into 6th gear as soon as possible.
For a car with only 330Nm of torque and 188kW the performance is impressive however I would still chip the car. The prospect of 239kW and 435Nm of torque is just too tempting.
Even with 19” wheels the ride was fairly smooth with ACC set to both Sport and Comfort modes. Driving down Victoria and Parramatta roads quickly highlights the benefits of ACC.
I’m leaning towards a 3 Door 6 Speed Manual in Rising Blue with the following options,
- Fibre/Leather Racing Seats
- Adaptive Chassis Control
- 19” Talladega Silver Alloy Wheels
- Electronic Sunroof
- RNS510 Sat Nav with Dynaudio
- Media Device Interface
- Rear View Camera
- Factory Bluetooth
I have been quoted 66,500 for a car with the above specs, which includes taxes, and onroad costs. Is this a good price and what further discounting can I expected?

for those that missed out initial lot of golf r ,like me despite ordering in 2009!
I wonder what other people are being quoted for delivery and if a build date is being quoted yet.
I have been told my order is scheduled but no build date and they estimate Nov delivery.
Also i note comments re 18vs 19 in .
have driven both and found both firm but no major difference ride wise but significant aesthetic benefits with the 18 in looking small and similar to the 17 in on the gti.Last edited by r down under; 20-06-2010, 01:22 PM.United Grey Golf r 5 door dsg leather sunroof 19 in wheels mdi

i finally got to test drive one today. it feels great and ride is much better than my current ride. However i don't know, if it's me or what but the dsg feels a bit jerky taking off. hopefully the dsg one in the Golf R isn't the same one as this one http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f15/...ive-44968.html
beside this i really like it, but i'll take a manual over the dsg if i was to buy one

Guys does the Golf R come with:
-Adaptive cornering lights,
-Auto dimming rear/side mirrors,
-Heated seats
-Adaptive cruise control ?
Im looking at golf R 5dr DSG, 19's, leather, ACC, sunroof, MDI, Dynaudio, bluetooth
So spec for spec how much more would an Audi S3 dsg Sportsback be compared to the 5 door Golf R with the above options ?
Basically 6 months out of uni I just scored a new job so im very tempted, thinking of rewarding my self a little.. So would it be worth salary sacrificing on a gross 65k salary ?

Got my R last Friday. So far only 165kms but wow. Very very nice. Have come from a much loved and adored Mk-5 GTI and I think the R is going to be miles ahead. Can't wait to get in on a race track but won't do so till after 15,000km service, just want to be sure as I'm keeping this one for a long long time.
The ACC is fantastic.
The only bug bear at the moment (which is minor and petty) is that the steering wheel isn't centred and there is a wind wistle from the driver's door between 60-100km/h.
Anyway, costs. 5-dr Golf R with DSG, ACC, leather and RVC for $59,114 drive away, which I'm led to believe is the corporate discount rate.Last edited by Man In Black (MIB); 20-06-2010, 04:53 PM.Man In Black (MIB)
