Looking to upgrade your options already Dave? It's not that bad value considering each recaro/bucket seat is only an extra $1k each.. considering leather is already $3,300 it's not too bad, and that's not even 100% real leather. I reckon the standard seats wouldnt be bad.

Just have to see how you go with them in the 3dr, may live to regret it although if you never have people in the back may not be too bad.. I haven't seen them close up and don't know if you could even reach into the back to get something off the seat etc.

I always had them on the radar and price wasn't a consideration but never found a car with them to see what they were like (R32 or S3 etc). The standard leather is good enough, it doesn't come close to my King lounge but then it doesn't cost as much either!

Not a valid consideration for me. I don't carry passengers often and if I do they'll be entering/exiting via the passenger side. The only thing that matters with the race seats is that they are comfortable as is or have enough adjustment to make them comfortable enough for me on a 1hr+ drive.

Panman has the R32 ones and thinks they are as he's driven to Syd a few times. someone just got a white one with them but may have been another city? (can't remember).

They are still heated which are pretty cool, but you lose side airbags. Wonder how much heavier they are than the leather seats (if any)?

Should be lighter, as recaros should have a fibreglass shell instead of tube frame.

Whilst it's not the same car, i swapped the standard forester seats for forester STi seats, which are a simliar shape to the original, not even racing style seats.
They saved 10kg per side! (15kg each Vs 25Kg each for standard)
neither the original, or the STi seats had airbags either,

i hate to think what a standard leather seat with airbags weighs..

            • In regards to the seat discussion, I have the similar recaros in my S3 and they are amazing. I am a big guy (6" 98kg, solid not fat) and find them extremely comfortable. Only downside is getting people in and out of the back if you have a 3 door, it can also be a bit tricky to get in and out if someone has parked really close to your door. But well worth it otherwise, I've sat in them for 2 hours straight very comfortably and the best bit was when on the race track you don't move at all which makes it's much easier to concentrate on driving.
I say go for it if you can afford it, unless you are getting a 3 door and use the back seats often (I don't).

Someone weighed them recently and they were approx. 38kg each. They are pretty heavy with the seat heaters too. recaros are heated so wasn't sure if they are much lighter or not.

Nice feedback. Does the passenger side seat operate any differently to the drivers side? ie easier to get in?

I dont see too much point of them on a 5dr (ie less sporty shape of car with more sporty seats) but would be easier to get in the back obviously.

All i know is everyone would love them when they see pics of them (but probably wouldn't add much value to the car later when selling). I wouldn't mind them at all but would eat up the saving between the R and the R32.

                • Finally received my quote - Which has taken 8 days to relay to me.

3 Door Manual - White or Blue yet to decide
19inch Wheels - Silver or Black yet to decide
                  Bluetooth My11
                  MDI
                  Leather interior
                  Rear View Camera
                  Sunroof

I live in QLD however I have been quoted $56,699 drive away (Melb dealer).

Thoughts??? I will prob have to exculde the Victorian ORC and arrange all of that in QLD once I get the car here.

Whats ur guys thoughts on colour - Blue or White in the 3 door??

                  • I've found VICROADS to be quite frustrating in the past. I wanted to buy a car in Melbourne (and I know that Maverick has been in the same position), and due to their rules (or at least their responses to my questions), I've just given up and thrown it in the too hard basket. NSW and the ACT is much easier. The dealer just arranges a ~$50 permit, and that gives you a certain time to drive the car to your home state and pay the stamp duty and taxes and rego etc required in your home state.

The Melbourne dealer SHOULD have quoted you for QLD drive aways, or without the Stamp Duty/Rego/Plates so that you could add it yourself.

The drive away price for Melbourne (literally post code 3000 - it varies on post code) would be $63,554.80, so your price would be a 10.79% discount, which is great. For QLD it would be $62,354.80 which means it'd be a 9.07% discount which is still great.

                    I hate white, so...

How funny would it be if your order turned up as a white car

                      • White looks much better on the GTI for some reason, but would still be my 2nd choice after rising blue.

                        • hehe.... I've already ensured that the dealer sends me the NADCON screenshots so that I can see that I definitely have "4C4C" (Rising Blue Metallic)

                            Amazing.

On another note i was told by the sales rep that the RVC is not a option on the R!

                            Anyone?

LOL, tell him to read the golf_brochure_specifications.pdf on the VW Australia site - it's an option i just checked.

Maybe someone could confirm who has one?
