The factory fitted Bluetooth kit is $550 inc GST RRP, plus the extra stamp duty and LCT, if applicable. If this is what the dealer is charging you $1,295 for, find another dealer.

If you're after a Bluetooth kit fitted post factory, then the dealer may be offering you something else, or may be the new VW standard Bluetooth that is $550 from the factory, but if it is getting fitted by the dealer then the price you've been given may also include labour.

There is only a single factory Bluetooth option for the Golf R, not a standard or premium choice.

It shows his iPhone integrated with the new Bluetooth. The touchscreen part works with RNS510 or RCD510.

Voice dialling is more a function of the phone - with an iPhone, hold the home button for two seconds and it enters voice dial mode. When connected to a Bluetooth system, simple take the Bluetooth hands free off hook and it goes to voice dial. Haven't tested this on the new Bluetooth, but I am sure someone will confirm.

I'm not an iPhone user, but I assume that you can still do that whilst it's connected via bluetooth.
However, the MY11 9ZB Bluetooth also offers voice dialing, which can be initiated via the buttons on the steering wheel. The only catch is (and again, I'm just going on info I've read from the net because I don't yet have my car and this product is so new) that you need to record the "voice names" for any contacts that you wish to perform voice dialing with.

That's what I meant by taking the Bluetooth hands free 'off hook'.

When the iPhone sees that, it is expecting you want to make a call and goes into its own voice dial mode with speech recognition (no need to record names, it can parse natural language).

Good to know that the VW system has its own facility as well, in the unlikely event that the VW system doesn't work with the native iPhone system.

bugga, too late for me. I didn't order with Bluetooth, opting for aftermarket, will have a word to my VW guy.... I don't think my guy intentionally mislead me, I chose to believe anyway.

If you haven't bought the aftermarket unit yet, several members of this forum have bought the MY11 factory unit and retrofitted it - you could always do that!

Yeah, be very careful what Bluetooth unit they are suggesting for you. Because there are LOTS of them, and there are some olders ones (even ones which used to cost $2000 installed) which don't support the iPhone properly (or at all).
9ZB (MY11 Bluetooth) is the latest and greatest, and also best value.

"It’s a good kit, quality is even better than the OEM Parrot kit I had in my Mark V GTI. I am frustrated though, both my BlackBerry & iPhone’s voice dialling is not being initiated by any of the buttons mentioned in the instruction manual, and the dealer is not familiar with MY11 kit workings. Also a friend of mine is being charged $1295 for a factory Bluetooth kit, because apparently it needs different modules when connecting to the NAV? is this true? or is the dealer having a lend? (mine was $600 inc GST)
