Here is a link to Fab's car with the BBS replicas

VW dealers do not supply BBS wheels though. Actuall BBS wheels in Australia are available through AMG Australia and are ridiculuously priced. It's not uncommon to cost $8k plus tyres for a set of RS-GT's :/

BBS Genuine wheels the same as my rep's are $900 each!!!

    • Aaah yes, the Genuine wheels of yours would be German made ones at that price. For some reason the Japanese made BBS wheels are much much more expensive! Go figure

How come in the Golf GTI brochure PDF that you download from the VW site, has shown that you can get different rims if you wanted to as an accessory?

        • They are VW Dealer Accessory rims. They're not the VW Factory rims, and they're not BBS rims....

Well, I do understand your point, but... Detroits and Denvers are made by BBS, so it's a fair chance factory rims on current GTIs or Rs could be too. BBS has also been making wheels for Golfs since the Mk1. The Montreal II wheels on my old Mk4 GTI were also made by BBS.

And the BBS CKs we bought for our Mk5 back in 2008 were about AU$405 each from TireRack. Or if you include the shipping and taxes they worked out to be $550 each.

            • Yes I understand. But you can still only get "VW" branded wheels (and the accessories ones, not factory ones) via a VW dealer. If you walk into your dealer and ask for a set of BBS CH's, then they're going to look at you with a blank face

I'm also well aware of Tirerack. RS-GT's from them are US$1185 each.... as are most of the Japanese BBS Rims. Germany BBS rims are of course much cheaper as you stated.
It still doesn't change the fact that the Japanese BBS rims in Australia are upward of $2000 each and the German BBS wheels are around $900 each.

Oh.... and Tirerack can no longer send BBS rims to Australia.

Yeah, I've heard that. Looks like we got in just at the right time. It was no problem a month or two back when I bought the OZs from them for the S3.

                • It sucks, cause I really wanted a set of BBS RS-GT's. They were on special at Tirerack recently for only US$705 when they're normally US$1185. In Australia they start around $2000 each

                  • I have an R in my current posession... Extended test drive... So awesome... I have not driven another car like it... And have driven a lot! So in love... The demo I have has 8000kms and it feels and sounds like it's just been worn in... It's like having a Porsche but with practicality of being able to put kayak and mountain bike on the roof... This is a car I would find hard replacing with another... Hurry up VAG and process the blue 5 doors!

It's so well built, it's tough as nails... Hard to really cause much wear and tear... One thing that did surprise me though was the foam structure in the boot carrying the spare wheel... Seems a bit tacky... But guess it lowers the weight...

So glad I didn't get ACC for the standard 18s, it rides so well without it and I can't fault steering feedback... Nice heavy weighting, just not as heavy as the ACC sport mode...

The standard stereo is pretty decent, but can't wait to push tunes out with the dynaudio... Sat nav is a must I think... Breaks up the interior. Predominantly black and the standard rcd interface is a bit average... No fancy equalizers or anything...

Sunroof is great, also glad I ordered. Again, breaks up interior and adds ambience...

Leather seats are tight and keep you in check... Standard cloth would maybe be a notch comfier, but leather puts the car in another class...

Spoke to a few dealers today about their expected delivery dates and all saying 6-8 months. Also mentioned discounts will no longer be offered as they were initially... Supply and demand... Expect close to full RRP now!!

I am actually worried about APR stage II... Car seems a handful as it is... I guess it's just adjusting to having so much power... Versus... Cough cough... Diesel...

                    • Further... Grey colour blends in too much... Only those in the know point it out... Blue is the halo colour, blue is the way to go...

Fuel economy with a lead foot around the city is 15-18L/100km... Not bad tho when you consider doing the same in a HSV you are looking at 30+L

Just love the takeoff from the lights... Leave traffic in your revision mirror. Also great for changing lanes. Very maneuverable.

There are online services that act as a go between in the US. i.e. Order the stuff and get it shipped to the go between's address. The go between then ships the items to you. Might still be cheaper than buying new over here.

You are right when I saw the dealer fitted rims in the brochure, I must of mistaken them for BBS rims or I must of read it somewhere that you can get them. It must of been on the article on the GTI Excessive, because I think it stated it there and I must of mistaken it for the similar looking rims in the brochure. They look very similar to the BBS rims.

                              • This page here has the BBS Rims from the Excessive next to the VW Motorsport Rims

BBS Rims are great.... but they're just so expensive in this country. Having said that, the VW Motorsport rims aren't exactly cheap either. In 18" x 7.5" in either black or anthracite, they're $932.69 each plus rubber!

The BBS CH Black wheels (as per my that link, or from the GTI Excessive), are actually one of their cheaper models, so they're only $734 for 18" or $815 for 19" varieties.
