I think they're the same on both sizes. The GTI has the non Maxx type I think? I had Sport Maxx on my XR6T's, not GT though and they were rubbish. Actually all the Dunlops I had over the years were crap, first replacement was always over to a set of bridgestones for an 11ty times improvement. Have always found dunlops to be excessively noisy and not particularly good for grip (on RWD fraud's anyway)Originally posted by LouLou View PostIf you opt for the 19" Talladega's:
Dunlop Sport Maxx GT (235/35 R19)
Not exactly sure what comes with the 18"s..Last edited by dave_r; 31-08-2010, 01:33 AM.

They'll come with whatever the VW Factory has in stock at the time your car was manufacturered. Although most have had Dunlop Sport Maxx GT, this could change at any time to any one of numerous brands that Volkswagen use.Originally posted by giddleberry View PostI was wondering if you lucky bastards who already have your R's could tell me what tyres they came with?
Thanks
Bridgestone, really? Whilst I have never liked the Dunlops that I've had over the years either, nor have I liked the Bridgestone, and changing to other tyres have had a good improvement. I'm not really sure which Bridgestone you'd be looking at, but right now the top tyre battle seems to be between the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric and the Michelin Pilot Sport 3....Originally posted by dave- View PostActually all the Dunlops I had over the years were crap, first replacement was always over to a set of bridgestones for an 11ty times improvement.

Popped into a local VW dealer this morning who has 2 demo R's in the showroom, a manual & a DSG both with 18's on.
The manual had Continental SportContact tyres the DSG was wearing Bridgestone Potenza's..
Seems as though it's pot luck what your R could be wearing.MY11 Golf R - Rising Blue - 5DR - DSG - 19" Black OZ Ultralegerra - Leather - Sunroof - MDI - Euro Plates - Milltek Exhaust - Bluefin - SOLD

I've only ever really had RWD's. Never liked anything Goodyear or Dunlop. On every car, going to a set of Bridgestones or better ones than came from the factory showed a good performance improvement wet and dry but also vastly reduced noise. RE711's, S03's and most recently Adrenalin RE001's. Never tried the euro stuff personally.

I've personally never liked anything Goodyear in the past either - but it's hard to argue with the numerous tyre roundups that the Eagle F1 Asymmetric have won over the past few years. The Michelin Pilot Sport 2 were probably the best before the F1 Asymmetric came along, but the PS3 is now better in some respects (maybe even overall?).
The Bridgestones supplied with my MKV Golf GTI were terrible. Plenty of wheelspin in the dry, overkill wheels spin and violent axle tramp in the wet. I ran out of time and money when I did the Ottinger/APR Stage II upgrade on my GTI and didn't have time to order in the Goodyears from overseas, so ended up buy a set of "budget" Federal SS595's on the recommendation of a friend who uses them for track days on his Skyline. Apart from the chevron pattern of the Federals resulting in more road noise, the SS595's were superior in every way to the Bridgestone.
Very much so. It has always been like this with VW. You could end up with any one of numerous brands they use:Originally posted by Prodigy View PostSeems as though it's pot luck what your R could be wearing.
Continental
Michelin
Dunlop
Bridgestone
Hankook
Pirelli
Kumho
Goodyear

Just have to wait and see but I'm sure the reviews said good things about the Dunlops and I hated them, so can't believe everything you read. I mean if we did, we should be buying GTI'sOriginally posted by coreying View PostI've personally never liked anything Goodyear in the past either - but it's hard to argue with the numerous tyre roundups that the Eagle F1 Asymmetric have won over the past few years.
