Agreed - I suppose the general public are not that well informed and are 'sucked in' by what the dealer say. For the sake of a couple of grand, why compromise on colour or spec?

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I made sure that the white GTi I've got arriving soon wasn't one of the Austral ones, I tracked the the VIN number, it arrived in Australia at the end of May. Thanks for the heads up Finance_Analyst
At least you got a 2011 car - for those who believe the rheteric about 'it's the compliance plate that counts etc and not build date', let me know what it feels like when your wallet is a few thousand dollars lighterCurrent ride: 2014 Range Rover Evoque 5 Door TD4 Pure | 9 Spd Auto | Fuji White | Black Leather | 19 inch 'Dynamic' Wheels

Picked up my car yesterday from Austral.
Despite all the dislike on this forum for them, my dealings were more than acceptable.
Got the type, colour, options I wanted, at the price I wanted under the free drive away deal.
Previous to this the best price I could manage was $1000's off what I got under the sale.
Having said that, I didn't really push the issue prior as I was away for easter and busy around the time. It just happened that the day I was ready to buy a car was the day the sale started.
I could not fault the car on pickup, so hopefully it is all fine.
Few little issues with getting used to DSG, but I think this is more running in as it improved over the first 50km or so.
I did manage to get MDI for free as they didn't notice the option when they sold it to me. This I was disappointed with as I actually wanted the storage space, but given my current car just has crap in the centre console, it's probably a good thing I didn't get the normal oneLast edited by xordis; 08-06-2011, 11:51 AM.MY11.5 Golf 118TSI DSG - United Grey, Sports pack (cloth), Bluetooth, MDI

Picked up my car today! Delivered on time, and to the month that I expected. In fact - to the week that was said. The 6 month wait was worth it. Initial impressions are great (as was expected). I forgot how much technology the Golf R has. In fact, I had forgotten a lot about the car - so tonight was like a new experience again.
My first impressions are...
1. Bi-Xenon headlights - love them.
2. The Adaptive Chassis Control (for me) has 3 settings. Soft, Softer, Softest. This is coming from someone who's previous car had Whiteline coilovers in it, and a ton of upgraded bushes and other suspension bits. Don't get me wrong though - the ACC and the smooth ride is most welcome. Bouncing over every pebble in the road was starting to get old.
3. The technology - I LOVE IT. Everything about the car. It's like going from an etch-a-sketch to an iPad 2.
4. DSG - so far so good, and I drove it home in manual mode.
I've got to put a few thousand kilometers on it, run the engine in properly - then I'm going to look at doing an ECU tune. Good times ahead! My car: MY18 Arteon
My car #2: MY22 Volvo XC40 Pure Electric
Her car: MY22 Skoda Octavia Limited Edition Wagon

Dealer advised that the R has arrived and should be ready for delivery on Wednesday. I will have cracked the 10 month barrier, 10 months 2 days from order to delivery. I'm at the stage that I will only believe that delivery is actually possible when I am drving out of the dealers yard(I'm a glass 3/4 empty type of guy).

Geezuz klink, that is terrible.. I have had mine for 2 weeks now and we were on the same ship... be prepared to have your Grin surgically removed... and BTW the blue is brilliant in the flesh ( metal)
oh yeah and brace yourself for the long walkthrough at the dealership, took them half an hour to go through the entire config..Current Ride: MY 16 Daytona Pearl Grey Audi S3- Performance Pack 1, Sunroof and Driver assist

Dealer gave me the address of where they do the pre delivery on the cars so i drove over and i can verify that my car exists, albeit covered in stickers and various protective wrappers. According to the Patricks sticker my car delivery was listed as Priority One..........your car must have been priority A1++.
There is one postive aspect to the waiting that i have overlooked, I have saved over $5k in leasing cost because i have been driving around in a 1981 VC commode (yes it is a mobile toilet on wheels) since I handed back my other lease car in Jan
Have booked my window tinting in with Rob (hunters hill dude) on Thursday morning already.Golf R 5 Door DSG, Rising Blue, 19" Wheels (Silver), Leather, MDI, RVC, Bluetooth, RNS510, APR Stage 2, APR Divorced DP, APR HPFP, VW Racing CAI, S2T Paddle Shifters, Sprint Booster
