How to track the car you have ordered?

Bugger.. my dealer had a sale over the weekend - a free iPad2 with all cars sold that weekend & delivery before end May.

I'm picking mine up on Friday after waiting 5 months... what's the likelihood of me scoring an iPad2?!? prob zero i imagine -the deal is already done

Supposed to go Port Kembla next. Hope the Patricks strike dosen't affect my car when it arrives in PK on 28 May. I just need to get the car to me before the end of June. That is even if it takes 4 weeks to go from port, customs, compliance, dealer then to me then I am still OK.

Looks like its going to last at least a week.
Did you order yours under the free drive aways deal?
I am not sure what they can do (dealer that is) if they are late delivering the car.
Can they cancel the contract and try to charge you the extra?
Mine was unloaded on Saturday, and according to the dealer its on its way and will be 5-10 working days away.
This was pre strike news so I wonder if they were just guessing it's on its way or actually knew it was clear of Patrick.

Hey Silverfox....still no call from my dealer re delivery for me...... let me know if you pick up your car today like they promised. Getting up to 3 weeks now for me on Sunday since the car docked. Considering the strike at the wharves Patricks must have a reduction of workload, less coming in,so surely should process the cars already there more quickly.
Wonder if there is anyone in Sydney whose Golf R was on the toreador that docked on 8/5 and has been delivered to them??? and if not what have the dealers said. They did tell me that cars that are sold "have names on them" are the first to be processed.
I totally appreciate your explanation on the "customer care" side of things but I still feel that customers that are not really satisfied with communication would not give them a good wrap.....surely not good PR for any business.

Good to know that I am not the only one waiting for the Dealers call, mine was also on the Toreador that docked at Port Kembla on the 8th.

You both have been waiting 14 working days.
My dealer said they average 15-20 working days from when the car is unloaded till delivery day.

I'm expecting a call from my dealer today as I spoke to him on Monday and he said the car was flagged as dealer transit and would arrive within 4 days.

It arrived on the Toreador on the 6th May and I have not been given a delivery date as of yet

Sold my Evo 9 late November last year as they said it could be early march delivery. Have been driving a daihatsu charade 1992 which I have resprayed and put a new clutch into.....call it the "silver surfer" So you may see why I am keen to get into my R......

MC is almost through Bass Strait. Due at Port Kembla on Saturday 28 May. I don't think there are any strikes or action at Port K at the moment, hopefully it stays that way. Only Brisbane, Sydney and Freo are striking at moment from what I have read.

My car was not bought under the free drive away promotion however my dealer has extended it to me after asking about it, which I thought was nice of him. So yes that means I need to get the car before the end of June to get the offer. Mind you I am not getting the full offer only $1600 discount, which is pretty good and brings my car in at 50k all up with all ORC included. Maybe not the best deal had around but I only had to wait from early April to mid June, not bad for the specs I wanted to a 'T' with only a 3 month wait!

You do realise that a strike involves your workforce not working don't you? Those not involved in the strike will be busy as well sorting out the mess created by the strike.

Your car will be ready when it's ready, the dealer and VW have no control over it's release and hassling them is futile.

Thank you Maverick...but was under the impression the people on the docks themselves were striking, not the workers at Patricks....am I wrong?
Again apologies but I have never waited this long and only own 1 previous VW myself that I bought second hand. Will be much better prepared, may I say educated, in the future..... Not really hassling but believe that sometimes they could make more of an effort.
I told the dealer that I was leaving OS on the 10th of June for a few months and they have long assured me that I would have it well before then...obviously this has some bearing on a little impatience.

Yeah - Patricks are a large company that perform many services, including the car compliance, but also the stevedoring (dock workers).

That's true but it's the same company and just because no new cars are coming in doesn't mean they can get cars out any faster, if they have a backlog they can only do so much. Not to mention that they have a heap of logistical issues at the moment so it's likely staff will be drawn from other areas to assist.

Most on here have had to wait and it's probably the hardest bit when the car is so close. My car arrived into port on Tuesday the 6th of May 2008 and I picked it up Friday the 16th (it arrived at the dealership on Tuesday or Wednesday and had to have tint etc done) so it's something you remember! Lead times seem to have blown out because of the volumes of cars but even at that time I was fortunate to get mine so fast.
