      • How long do the boats take to get from Germany to Australia? Like - average? 1 month? 2 months?

        • According to the sailing schedule for the Toreador, via south africa, 5 weeks less 2 days to Fremantle, 6 weeks less 2 days to Port Kembla.

If via America takes a bit longer but not sure how much longer

          • We've seen ships take in excess of 60 days....
Also, typically when they come via America they then come down the East Coast of Australia first and then to West Coast - so Brisbane, Port Kembla, Melbourne, Fremantle.

Probably had to stop at Christmas Island to make sure not carrying any boat people only boat cars. My GTI is now on home soil (well water at least) - only one small boat trip to Melbourne to go, road trip to Adelaide and then the wait is over.

              • Just got a VIN - I think.

I got a screenshot of the extended data from the nadcon system. It says the vehicle was at checkpoint 8 on 25/3/2011.

I have a vehicle ID and Chassis number. The beginning of the chassis number is WVWZZZ1KZB....... Is this the number I should be using?

Should there be "ZZZ" in the VIN or are these just placeholder letters?

Ok - great. So this is the number I should be plugging into the Cargo ID field on https://att.2wglobal.com/gstattweb/ right?

                      • Here's a screenshot

Here's a screenshot of the eta data.
It says production week 12, day 4 and is at checkpoint 8 on 25/03/2011.

Also the VIN is there - so has the car been made or is that an assigned number?

I just want to know when I should be entering that vin into the tracking site to see which ship it will be on.

                        Insights anyone?

It's assigned just before it goes into production.

Once a day from now on?
There are lots of variables as to how long before it'll get loaded on a ship and show up on the tracking site... just ask some of the Polo GTI boys atm

Sooooo...... does that mean you ordered your car in Feb, and it went into build 12th week of the year (ie end of March)?????

I ordered mine start of Feb and went to the dealer last week just to drop by and see if there was any news, and they still are giving me blank stares and just to expect September delivery (hopefully).

Looks that way. I ordered mine on 5th feb. Assuming I have a VIN means the car is built yeh?

Also the checkpoint 8 - not sure if this is "handover to sales" or not. My dealer didn't send me any more info. I wanted the screenshot of the ETA data - it is another page. I will be ringing VWA tomorrow....

                              • As I said above, the VIN means the car is about to go into production.
You know when it should start production from the info there - week 12 day 4... which has already passed.

Check Point 8 - Handover to sales (which is the one step), means that the VIN number etc has been entered into NADCON so that sales can access the information...

So there is no need to ring Volkswagen Group Australia (VGA, who you're referring to as VWA). Just be patient and it'll appear on the shipping tracking site in a week or so...
