How to track the car you have ordered?

Well, I was excited to see the Torino had left Fremantle... until... I looked at the map and saw it was heading West back toward South Africa!!!! WTF!? Dude - get a GPS - Melbourne is East!!!!

Lol... don't stress man. It's next stop is definitely Melbourne.

It has to head west, and north a bit, to go up and around Rottnest Island.
I'm not sure why this is the case, but that's just the way it is!

As I said above, the VIN means the car is about to go into production.
You know when it should start production from the info there - week 12 day 4... which has already passed.

Check Point 8 - Handover to sales (which is the one step), means that the VIN number etc has been entered into NADCON so that sales can access the information...



So there is no need to ring Volkswagen Group Australia (VGA, who you're referring to as VWA). Just be patient and it'll appear on the shipping tracking site in a week or so...

Ahh - ok. Thanks for making it more clear . It's just that I need some firm dates as I will be organising a locum to cover me at work. I'll just sit tight for a week

They won't be able to give you firm dates yet. The reason is, even once it's on a ship, the ship can be delayed for numerous reasons (weather is one). And then even when it arrives in Australia, a third-party company, Patricks, then needs to do the compliance - but there is no way to tell which order the 3000 odd cars come off the boat (and they're not all VW) and which order they'll be trasported to compliance and exit it etc.

If you must have a "firm date", all they could do is give a really safe date (say 2.5 months transport, 1 month compliance/pre-delivery) and then store the car for you if it gets here early... but then the car could be waiting around for a few weeks unnecessarily!

Noticed that as well last night as I was watching it leave Freo - started to think he was going the long way around past Darwin. And now it is the 11 April before he gets to Melbourne - another day I have to wait.

Freakin' sweet as! I got my build date (5th April 2011), and my Vehicle ID number. The car exits production today according to the NADCON screen shot. It should go to the wharf next week and the ship is scheduled to leave on April 26. Is there anyway I can find out what the name of the ship is?

So far it's still looking good for a June delivery. If so - that'll make it 6 months from signing contract -> delivery. Which is exactly what I was expecting. So far happy days.

Looks that way. I ordered mine on 5th feb. Assuming I have a VIN means the car is built yeh?

Also the checkpoint 8 - not sure if this is "handover to sales" or not. My dealer didn't send me any more info. I wanted the screenshot of the ETA data - it is another page. I will be ringing VWA tomorrow....

Toreador has appeared on the radar again. I thought it would have been further down the west coast of Africa, but I guess I was wrong. Can that ship sail any faster?

This is what I've been mentioning... each car drives to the ramp, where it stops whilst another person scans in the barcode which is stuck to the windscreen, that then uploads all the manifest details... so the car's details are available before it's even been tied down.

It's only rare occasions where the ship's already been sailing before cars appear. I'm not sure what the case is that causes that to occur (weather blocking the wireless? who knows?)

There's a Discovery Channel documentary as part of the Mighty Ships series which focuses on a RORO shipc alled Faust. You guys should check it out if you can find it
