Whilst I think that Highlander has provided a plausible explanation of what "liner release" probably means, I just thought I'd comment on this line.
The Emma Mærsk is the worlds largest shipping vessel (ok, so it's 7 sister ships now equal her), but her speed is 25.5 knots (47.2 km/h; 29.3 mph). So given favourable wind/tidal conditions, it is definitely possible for these ships to do 50km/h

You know you are getting old when you cancel your order for a 3.6 CC and buy an Icelandic Gray TDI CC instead.

Someone here in the office has suggested that "liner release" might be a politically correct way of saying that it has fallen overboard. Hope they are wrong

            • My car is finally here and cleared customs within 3 days from docking
I checked it over at the dealer and it is still covered in film
It will be ready to pick up on Tuesday the dealer has been great to deal with
And is preparing the car for me in a reasonable amount of time.
Volkswagon Australia have let me and others down by not providing a more accurate
              Time of arrival.
From 3 months Eta it stretched out to 8 months

              • Hmmm.... 3 months is VERY optimistic. I would like to know how "VWA" are actually at fault here, since the dealers place the orders and that goes through to the factory etc. I think that at least part of the blame (all?) could be on the dealer for giving the estimate of 3 months when these things regularly take twice that.

You do know that the E in ETA stands for ESTIMATED?

And that the ETA was given to you by the dealer and not VWA?

They wouldn't be the first dealer to give bogus ETA's in order to get a sale so you might want to redirect your anger or just move on. If it was a confirmed time or guaranteed time you would have a reason to complain.

                    • Even so 6 month or 8 months wait for car is too long VWA is responsible for providing an estimate on how many cars get allocated to built for Australia. Gathering by what iam hearing on wait times from other people the requirements are not been met to a satisfactory standard.
Yes VWA is responsible for this

The car is popular and VWA are given limited build slots as the factory has to cater for other countries.

If you wanted your car quickly you should have chosen one coming in on a ship and compromised on the configuration or gone elsewhere.

The dealer shouldn't have told you three months when the cars were taking longer. As I said it's the dealership you should direct your anger at or you could just suck it up and enjoy the car.

                        • Yeah - I have to agree. Your anger is being misplaced. The dealer should not have told you 3 months. This was simply misleading given the number of other customers who had more realistic timeframes provided by their dealers.

                          • im very lucky with mine - the only thing extra i wanted was a sunroof, but didnt want to wait 6-8 months for it.... compromising sometimes pays, and at the end of the day u still have an awesome car

it takes 2 months on the boat the get here (with all the stops plus customs) so i agree 3 months is unrealistic for custom - u should talk to VWA about the dealer given they gave false info to seal a deal (and stringing u along for 5 months)

                            • Hi guys, i have been told by my dealer that my golf R is expected in Sydney around October 31st. This figure seems to have been given to a few others as well. How accurate is this date? Should i be optimistic in expecting that to stay true? I certainly hope that i won't be dragged into a 5-6month wait.

Last I'd heard everyone else has been quoted end of Nov and that's the first shipment. So not sure where Oct 31 came from.
