How to track the car you have ordered?

Hi again Stevie_t - I posted this in another thread but I ordered my GTI on 6th August and have already been told that my vehicle is scheduled for Build week 38 (around 13th September). I think this will translate into Oz arrival/delivery to me in mid-late November.
The only reason I got so high up the Q (having just ordered a week ago) is because my dealer put my name against one of their stock cars they have had on order since mid January. He was able to modify the spec to what I wanted without losing the spot in the Q.

If you ordered in late April and haven't been given a build week yet, you might not see it until early next year. I would get onto the dealer again.

Can anyone tell me when the first batch of MY11 GTI's are expected to be in the hands of owners in Oz, so that we can confirm the "actual" MY11 changes ? From other posts, it sounds like some time in the next 2 weeks.

Order is at Dlrspec so will not be built until January at the earliest, cannot give you a build week

Dealer called today, car ready for pickup 4:30 PM on Friday, only 16 days after arriving at the port. Too bad I will have peak hour freeway traffic going south on Kwinana Freeway for my first drive hehe.

My GTI is due to arrive in Melbourne on the 23rd August + 10 days Dealer Delivery, so about three weeks (week begining 6 Sept). Hope this helps, I have to try and get excited again....a bit over it at the moment.

Hi all,

Just a question about the tracking webpage, I got my VIN number off my dealer, tried it - no dice. At first I thought it was because the car wasn't loaded onto the ship. But called the dealer again yesterday to see where it was up to and apparently its on a ship due to dock in Brisbane on the 8/9 (YAY!!!). Has anyone else had that experience?

PS. I double checked the VIN number with the dealer so its apparently the correct number

With this tracking business how long after I ordered my car can I expect to be able to get the VIN number etc from the dealer ?
The Salesman was somewhat new to VW and I dont think was fully conversant with procedures.
I could just hassle him but want to give an appropriate delay.

Also, is it really going to take well into the new year to arrive ?

Unfortunately you won't get the VIN & Engine numbers until the car is physically built and has left the assembly line.
Seeing that you have only just placed your order it may be a while before receive them as the next build schedule for the 'R's is weeks 37-39 which you would of missed.

Those of us with cars being built in this cycle will receive them Nov/Dec so i'm afraid it probably will be well into the new year before yours arrives..

Not exactly, I think they're available as soon as the build is allocated a production slot. The Polo hasn't been built yet but we got the details about 2 weeks ago. Don't have the info in front of me, can confirm later.

It is a Golf "R" 5 door DSG in White.
The car was ordered on 11/8/2010. The estimated delivery date on the order is 25/12/2010 which I suspect is just plucked out of the air as the last date before the new year.

That sounds about right, I'm in for a week 42 build...Ordered my 3 door R on 3rd August and delivery mid December - Early January at the latest
