Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

and also does it matter if the top high pressure fuel sensor has a crack on it but no fault codes yet?
      Get your cam checked asap.

A replacement will cost you a lot of money.

        • Had a flat bottom gti dsg paddle steering wheel installed as well as an RCD510 along with canbus upgrade installed in my 2006 turbo jetta. Certainly makes a difference to the driving experience and i highly recommend it to anyone pondering whether to do it.

Bought it from Lithuania and it's out of a 2015 Scirocco 1.4l tsi (the same as mk6 GTD,GTI and R I believe)

Great mod, was this hard to do?

              Comment

              • Very easy to do.
There are 6 clips around the cluster and you split it and swap fascia's.
You need to be careful as the clips that hold the fascia's on are easily broken.

Excellent thanks, did it matter if the donor cluster was a full or half height MFD? And although the Hour/Minutes and 0.0 buttons are slightly different was it just disconnect and reconnect?

                  • Doesn't matter when putting a full height onto a half height and all the buttons line up.
One thing I didn't realise is, when you pull the standard cluster apart there are green pieces on the top of both blinker signals.
The gti's are built into the fascia, so if you don't remove the standard ones you can barely see when the blinkers are on because the light
is having to go through two pieces of green plastic.

Anyone place I can buy these in Sydney? Or do they have to be ordered online?
Camshaft looks ok, but, I guess I won't know until I put a fresh cam follower in. I don't know how much a camshaft lobe can take before being worn out by this. Fingers crossed!

EDIT: Did some digging around, found a couple of places in Sydney. Won't be able to grab one until Thursday though

Camshaft will be fine, it hasn't punched through. That's when you should be worried.

                              • Hmmm. Likewise. My idle had become rather ticky lately too.

In other news - fitted this tonight:

Hopefully this fixes my high oil consumption. Was a lot in the tube to the intake...
