Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Yeah, it's the same on my Mk7 R. LEDs all round except the boot and the glovebox. WTF?!?!? They put 2 blue ones in each front door. I'd have settled for 1 blue one and better lights in the boot. Time for a Bold Sport order...

    • Went for a drive up to Baw Baw national park

Installed a unibrace XB last week and was a little sceptical that it would do anything but can certainty feel the difference, car feels nicely planted

Why did VW put in such a **** light in the boot ? Seriously 1 x 5w festoon bulb for the boot, but hey the number plate gets 2.

        50cm strip. 36 x 7020 SMD LED, 9 watts
I am very impressed with the light output.

          • Got a new battery this morning. It's a Bosch S5 575.035 with 680CCA, delivered for $198. Didn't include install but installation is an easy 5min job anyway. Its a bit bigger than stock and although it fit in the battery bay nicely, the padded cover thingy wouldn't fit around it. Never been this excited to change a battery haha

                    • Pulled apart my dash to locate an annoying sound on fast corners. Noted someone had once tried the same but must not have had correct tools and only manged to break clips etc.
Found 10 cents on top of radio and 5 cents stuck in air vent.

Also removed and refitted a front tweeter surround as it had a big gap, this was mentioned on some service papers from 5 years ago but looks like they never fixed it.

                        • I don't do much, and this was spur of the moment, but swapped my stock 15"s to some 17" Classix I found on gumtree. I think I like 'em.

Did the same to mine, but plastidipped them black cause they had some light rash. They look great for OEM wheels tbh.

                            • The dipping might be the way to go. I had these wheels on my Mk5 and I used to curse at the effort required to get the brake dust out of the spokes.

The dipping looks bloody fantastic, great work.

Brake dust was a nightmare on my 15s too so I'm hoping it's not too much more work! I've received them with some tiny black specs on there, reckon I can get them off?
