could be a dirty/clogged up o2 sensor? worst case would be having to replace it after being damaged during install

Hit 100,000km today.
Thermostat is playing up again, wont quite stay at 90.
I removed the 02 spacer last weekend and no code until today, now I have the Cat Efficiency code. So I know that with the spacer the difference from 1st to 2nd sensor is too much and makes it think the 1st sensor is bad or "stuck rich", no spacer = bad cat reading.
Maybe a shorter spacer is needed to find the sweet spot ? or a tune.
I found that if I ignore the CEL it goes awayLast edited by JustCruisn; 04-09-2016, 07:00 PM.MK4 GTI - Sold

Did a 6 month oil change this week.
LiquiMoly TopTec was on clearance at SuperCheap a while back so I got some of that. I'm hoping it will not burn off as quick as the Castrol oil does. I used 2 litres in 6 months, 9,500km.
Also decided to try an intake clean too.
Well the smoke and high revs was a bit of fun but it killed the spark plug on cyl 2. Not really impressed by this. At least spark plugs have come down in price. Now only $14 each, were $30+ last year. Repco still wants $35 each after Autoclub discount however
I changed just the 1 plug and all was good for 300km until the misfire returned. So I went and got 3 more plugs and changed them out.
That is when I saw the connector to the coil pack on cyl 2 was not quite seated. VCDS scan showed
004952 - Cylinder 2 Ignition Circuit P1358 - 004 - Open Circuit - Intermittent
I should have scanned first
All 4 coil connectors have broken clips so I have introduced 2 screws to hold the connector rail in place.
So let that be a warning, if you do an intake clean with a spray be prepared for spark plug failure, maybe put in some old ones during the cleaning process.MK4 GTI - Sold

What LiquiMoly TopTec you using? 5w30 or 5w40?
1L every 5,000km (or close enough) doesn't sound too bad to me these days! lol. I've switched to 5W40 to reduce the oil consumption, still consumes but less than 5W30. My 5W40 is still VW 502/505 spec.
What spark plug you using?
And what is this intake clean method are you referring to? If it damages your plugs, you may as well do it when you're going to replace them.
My mechanic threw out my 15k old spark plugs at the 120k major serviceThe worst part was I asked him to change the plugs at the 105k service (as I was getting the timing belt replaced at 105k) but he didn't check the log book or his records so changed them again at 120k. I was less than impressed as he did both services.

Learning a fair bit about the MK5 GTI and doing the work myself.
Received advice from GFB.com.au regarding the diverter valve. The original was a better design than the revision D, though the rubber splits on the original. Pulled the original out and replaced with the GFB modified diverter - WOW! Massive difference to the lag and way more responsive. Just have to replace the brake booster with check valve (another common fault) so that the PO171 code is fixed (system bank too lean).

Mine has gone in for a carbon engine clean and fitting the stock DV back on. Currently have the GFB + on
