If you want a thread title changed, PM me I can do it.

You could do the exhaust on stands but a hoist would be easier. If you look at the exhaust by the rear axle, you should be able to spot a couple of dents in the pipe. Marking where to cut it, so that you can fit a replacement rear silencer easily. Would allow you to save the exhaust for future use.

Spare Bung - Yeah, I thought there was one extra too, but thought someone said it was all good. I'll check it out and source one from an exhaust shop, or hassle you if I'm stuck.

Thread Title Change - very handy to know!

Hoist - Yep, my mate at Holden (the Wolf) has apparently booked us a hoist next Sat (11th Jan). I just need to plan it over the next week, might get some parts to do a decent service too while it's on the hoist just in case the exhaust doesn't take us 'that long'.. Yeah right! When does that ever happen?!

Cut Exhaust - Yep, if I know where to cut it exactly, that sounds like a good plan. I may even try to store the original exhaust up at my oldies' place somehow as it looks like it's in great condition, and it could be good piece of mind/backup if I ever 'part out'.

Off the top of my head, I think it would all still go into the next car easier as a complete set once all of the upgrades are done.. But you really need to talk to someone who's done a few of them.

You should give Matt at Camden GTI a call, he did mine with ease, and helped out Stan over the phone with his (Stan also bought his engine from him).

I'm not saying to get him to walk you through the whole thing for free, but he's probably got some great opinions on how to approach/plan it out.

Also, he's one of the forum founders on here as "Golf Loon". Flick him a PM is possibly easiest for him to reply when he has the time.

I'm sure there are some other engine builders out there with similar experience, but Matt's the only one I know.

        • In the spirit of the summernats w/end here in Canberra, I went and got the resonator in my 4mo deleted. No noticeable increase in performance, but it does feel less restrictive and does have a notable growl from the vr6 which is what I was aiming for. Anyone got any more ideas on how to make the vr6 sound more noticeable?

Now to give the car a wash, clay and detail while I enjoy my last day of holidays

Yeah, I got the RAC out they said it was ok to tape & signed it off as a temporary repair & I ordered the new hose following day.

              • I'm currently at Sun Peaks, Canada for a holiday and I saw this fantastic looking rear wing installed on a GTI and wondered if we should start importing them for Oz?

i had similar issues recently, could be your switch, also make sure your thermo stat is opening to allow the hot water to pass by the switch. feel the hoses top and bottom of rad to confirm...

                        • Yeah both hoses are hot and the heater is blowing hot air so the heater core is working also the coolant is flowing back to the expansion tank, im really hopeing that means its the sensor
