You'll notice that the fuse box flap and it's surrounding piece are different shades, as they're different paints, which I'll explain the pros/cons of later, but that flap will get a coat or 2 of the right colour in a few days.

      ..More/better shots later...

This is definitely a project I'm considering doing to the gf's golf. The previous owner had a penchant for glitter infused make up and the whole joint is covered in the cr@p.

        • Quick question guys, ive removed the radio cage from the gti and removed the wood parts and i want to fit it to my 1.6 golf. So my question is will it fit my car? More concered about the ac part on the lower part? Will it fit around the stock dials part?

          • ...Just realised I never really introduced myself in the mk4 section. I'm Jack, I'm 19, I drive a 2002 1.6 in Oceanic Green Pearl (which is a super rare colour, from what I've heard) that I've had for nearly 4 months now. Lows coming soon.

Pics from a few shoots (the shoots were for other cars, just took the opportunity to get some of mine too )

Unedited, shows the colour a bit better

GTI wheel arrived from dubster99 (cheers!), which I'm going to be reupholstering with new leather, after thickening it a good bit. Not sure if it will end up in the car or not, but if I can source an airbag easily then it just might!

Seat Arosa headlight switch also arrived, thanks to eri_12! Got it in the car already, obviously a nice easy install.

I too will be doing my interior plastics once I'm done with exams (saturday, hurrryyyy uuuuppp). Also found a Bora being wrecked (as I'm in Perth, finding decent parts locally is a pretty rare occurrence ) and I might be getting the leather seats out of that for $250. The plan is chuck those seats in the car, then strip my current seats back, redo all the foam and add heaps of bolstering so I fit the seat better, then reupholster them (haven't decided what material yet) and sell the Bora seats on.

Also spent the morning starting to refurbish a set of wheels I got off a mk3 guy called Zalemate. They're Antera Type 123s in 16x7.5+35. Got them cheap, just something to daily til I can afford better. Thinking of going with a pearl white colour, with VW centre caps (coming soon).

            • Nice Jack, your golf looks super clean!

Sounds like you might need a build thread.

                Thanks mate, much appreciated
Yeah haha might be worth it hey. I've actually been filming everything I've done so far, in the hope of starting some sort of youtube show (sort of like mighty car mods in concept, I guess, but as far from actually being mighty car mods as possible...) so when the first episode of that comes out I'll probably start a build thread to go along with it

Yeah it was pretty bad. I've seen worse before but this was still quite frustrating. People need to learn how to at the very least use crimp connectors. We dont just shove cables in the back of harnesses.

Interesting was the use of household wiring to power the massive horn dumped in the engine bay and dangling 10cm above the road. Very average install of the alarm system being basically a door locking system.

At least the wiring is now removed and I have now soldered connections with heatshrink for protection. Such a great feeling knowing what the wiring in my car is now like. Every loom that has been adjusted has just about been inspected and now I can fix it to a (hopefully) better standard.

After a LOT of research and driving around (mostly trying to look for the Krylon Fusion, unsuccessfully ), and trying something I wasn't happy with, I ended up with a paint that had matching traits with the Krylon Fusion (primer and paint in one, adheres to plastics, very flat black to match interior), but is infinitely easier to find, being from Bunnings, and therefore easy to find for touch ups, AND only about ~$11/can... I present to you what I now call the perfect interior paint, 'Rustoleum 2X Primer and Paint Flat Black' !! I'll get a pic and the exact name later, but it must be flat black, not satin or gloss.

This appears to be it, no pic yet:

Also, each can seemed to last quite a while, and no 'splutters' of big droplets of paint landing right in the middle of your work, %*!#. The only thing I found hard to get used to was the 'circular' spray pattern rather than the standard wide linear spray, which is much harder to do overlapping 'rows' with than the wide flat linear spray. You could probably just change the spray can 'cap' to get the wide spray back..

                        • Dubster, I forgot to mention, re: the woodgrain interior bits,
are you're talking about the wood grain surround (from the GTI), from the climate control version? This is like a thin 15mm square frame/border, and probably won't fit on the standard AC controls with their round dials..

I hope I'm reading the question right, but I'm looking at these 2, from climate control with square face, and AC control with round dials..

Yea as my cage is solid, no trims pieces could be removed which is why i needed the gti cage. Will dismantle my cage and compare both with pics

                            • What have you done to your mk4 (golf/bora) today?

Interesting.. I just pulled mine apart to paint it all separately, and the only bits that needed painting that were attached and not removable from the cage were the 2 vertical 'strips' running down either side. I think my black interior and dash came from a '2.0 Generation' ... That's all I know sorry. Let us know how you get on!

Actually, my whole radio/AC cage area was original from my 1.6L (GLE?), as it still had this ****ty 'grey marble' sticker trim kit from the previous owner.. Let's call her 'hopeless', as she even scraped the car down her picket fence reversing out when I first turned up to check it out! (I came back another day after she'd had someone buff out all the picket fence paint).
