Penrite says ATF FS Multi is the preferred fluid. What did you get?
I went for a fully synthetic nulon. Is called multi vehicle transmission fluid for the 096 box.Mk IV Golf GTI - BMP - GIAC chip, R32 wheels, KW coilovers, rear swaybar.

Shipping took only about a week, not very long IMO.Past - '95 VW Golf MK3 VR6

@Speed
Good news, did the whole thing today. Avoided jacking the car up and instead just took the front lip off. Everything went smoothly apart from getting the orange seal out of the transmission, that was slightly tricky but still easy.
It helps to have the wheel jack under the pan to hold it while you unscrew all the bolts and the same for when you have to put it back on, helps to keep it in position.
My pan had a big flat long magnet barely had any metal on it which is a good sign. The filter was the original filter, checked the date stamp! Company called Zeller made these filters for VW.
If you don't have a tube and funnel handy like me, SCA sells a kit for under $10, really needed to re-fill the transmission.
I tried doing the "kerma mod" but only got about two audible clicks, it's a hard spot to get to so I didn't spend too much time.
FYI, you need to reset the logic when you do everything.
One odd thing was most people say to NOT use dextron fluid, but the red filler cap has dextron printed on it...
Anyway, I might post a photo slideshow with what I did to help others.
Good luck!Past - '95 VW Golf MK3 VR6

I bought a pump thingy to drain the oil from the filler tube. Cost 35.
Yeah I thought I had said dex3 to you earlier.
Whats this reset business and how does she drive now?Mk IV Golf GTI - BMP - GIAC chip, R32 wheels, KW coilovers, rear swaybar.

Just less mess when lowering the pan based on the write up i saw for a 096. Maybe overkill but it's another useful tool for the tool chest.
We have 7 cars so I'm sure it will get some some use.
I also have a dipstick to check the level.Mk IV Golf GTI - BMP - GIAC chip, R32 wheels, KW coilovers, rear swaybar.

so, I did everything with regards to servicing the transmission. Checked the level 4 times, correct temp, everything, after changing the filter and gasket. The trans slips more than before though, I'm lost as to what has happened. I've reset the fuzzy logic of the controller and given it a bit of time to re-learn. I've found that it sometimes drops while turning. I had this happen before though but not very often. It sometimes has trouble engaging first. Once the car is rolling it changes gears like before.
I have a feeling that there is not enough fluid and it goes to one side while turning hence slipping, but if that were the case then why is the fluid correct when I check?
Anyone have an idea and what's happening?Past - '95 VW Golf MK3 VR6

Speed, yes, I measure the temp once warmed up and start checking the level once it's in the correct range. Maybe the fluid is too new and the car is just used to the old fluid?
Oddly, it performed well for a small incline today from a stop position, no slipping.
Maybe it just needs time.
Edit; vagcom is not throwing any error codes at all for trans.Last edited by stefcio007; 10-02-2016, 11:26 AM.Past - '95 VW Golf MK3 VR6
