    • Late last night successfully cleaned the idle Stabilization valve and sorted a leak in the vacuum line.
      Car idles and doesn't stall!
Next - replace broken door handle.

      • Bet you that leak took a long time to track down.

Any tips on hunting a vacuum leak?

Can of Start ya b@stard or throttle body cleaner.
Spray around area where you think a leak may be.
If idle changes when you spray in a certain spot, proabably a vacuum leak there.

            • Well my quick fix hasn't seemed to have fixed it after all.
Was running great for a day, however the sikaflex isn't working and has split after only a day of driving
Rubber hose is a tricky bit to source and can't seem to find a part number anywhere for it.
              So back to square 1.

Also took the mk2 for an air con regas and seems that either XT valve is blocked or compressor is f'ed.
$95 later - no cool air and a quote for $660 for new XT valve and a compressor.
Not impressed, contemplating dropping aircon altogether if I can't find a cheaper option.

              • Try 80 x 2 x 1/2

80 k's, 2 windows, wound half way down.

                Works for me.

Is that for a new compressor ? that is a good price if it is, I imported a new compressor for around $450 from GAP when AU$ was high. If you do the same now, it'll cause you a lot more.

It not worth spending money on Mk2 air cond IMO, if you decide to delete AC I have parts for you

                    • I think the price they gave me was pretty fair, but yep I agree- I'd probably prefer to delete air-con all together. It's only tried to regas it as we have had some stinking hot days- black car and 2 kids don't mix!
Might have to install one of those old School cabin fans.
Thanks Eric! I might take you up on that one.

                            • Looks good - make sure your doors will shut with the trims back on (if you're using them...)
The shoulder supports run so wide on a fixed back that they may just make contact, then squeak like crazy over every bump!

...I found out the hard way.
