  • This is looking like a serious build and the quality of the work is fantastic.

You owe your dad a few beers and I think you deserve a few as well.

    Cheers

            • Ah. Sorry. The yellow clip. I thought it was the end of the dipstick when the handle snaps off.

Oh righto, yea this one is a good design, my mk4 one had the yellow plastic that basically crumbled. Very fun pulling yellow plastic out of the sump!

                  • Update: 05/06/2022

Not much to update, been working flat out on the house and finally finished renovations so back into the mk2 woohoo.

Stripped the roof back, bit of surface rust here and there but got rid of it and deoxidised where necessary, then etch primed. Hopefully the pictures attached shows the work that I now have to do to get the roof looking tidy!

                    Cheers,
                    Thomas

                        • Update: 16/07/2022

Long time no golf! Stripped another section this morning and hit with etch primer. Slowly making my way around. Just finished walking the Overland Track in Tas and had a few camping trips away so I have left the project neglected for a month or two. I'm feeling my motivation is slowly building up again to get this bodywork done!

Attached a pic of hopefully what it'll look like end product, maybe just a bit more meat on the tyres... Love the small bumpers

                          • You running 195x50x15's? Best compromise for handling/Aussie roads.

For showing off get some 16's with 45 or 40 profile. Here's my old one on 195x45x16's.

                            • Yea your right about the forgiveness needed on Aussie roads. Not sure I like the 16's? when I first bought this car it had 16's on it and they just seemed too big, maybe cause they were an ugly wheel I am scarred from it? but each to their own hey, yours look pretty good. I don't mind my current stock VR6 wheels I have on it and I like how it keeps the car a little bit oem. But they will certainly get upgraded sometime down the track. You still got ur mk2?

                              • Sold the MK2, working on getting my MK1 back on the road.

The trick to getting a good suspension setup for local roads is to fit soft shocks with good springs. When you hit a bump the soft (standard) shock easily compresses so there's no harsh ride. Stronger springs and nice thick sway bars will still stop the body roll and give you great handling.

Both my MK2's (I crashed the first one) were setup like this and were my daily drives doing over 1000ks per week over country roads.

                                Cheers
