Yep fair enough! Sounds like some good tips. Not sure how much driving I'll be doing in this once I finish it, just a sunday arvo cruise. If it drives a bit like a go kart, that'll be ok. Just as long as it looks good haha!

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Bit more stripping. Patches of rust on the lower sills, take it back as far as I can with wire wheel then use a rust converter that converts to a ferric tannate. Good for painting over. The area hides under a wheel arch trim so not too fussed about cutting it out. Excited for all the painting to be finished! Got a few goodies coming in the next few weeks from UK, new bumpers, grill, lights, BMC air filter and much more to give it a good finishing touch once painted

China is a good place to get parts from. Their old taxi fleet were MK2 Jettas. Thousands of them and a small industry supporting them with (Chinese made) parts.1978 MK1 2.0 16v http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...-46488-70.html

Interesting. I'm in fairly desperate need for some rain gutter trims so hopefully they have something suitable to a golf that they used on the jetta. Cheers

BMC CDA filter fitted, looks awesome. Haven't started the engine yet but have heard they are one of the best sounding filters for the VR6. Stock mk2 filter box was too small to fit the maf housing, mk3 box was too big to fit the bay and trying to find a Corrado VR6 box was too rare to find, especially trying to get someone to ship one to Aus.
Had to buy a 3.25" tube to fit it to the maf housing. Kit came with a bracket which I bent into shape and gave a lick of paint. Fits well, looks great and hopefully worth every $$ I paid!
Cheers,
Thomas

Strip, bog, sand, paint, repeat. Everything fixed up now but the roof, lots of bog required there. Then hopefully can get into my first layers of primer filler next weekend. Very excited

Wow what a week. The roof was an absolute tester for me. Used over 4kg of bog and took off probably 3kg to get it right, the lowest point was about 3mm of bog and all high points had been hit down. I made a longer speed file sander to help with sanding the large surface, worked a treat! Many hours were spent getting it straight, fair to say my arms are wrecked...
Followed up with a lick of 2k primer, now ready for a good sand! I am well pleased with how well it has all turned out.
Cheers,
Thomas
