      Update: 15/01/2021

Been upto lots and lots, finished welding brackets and figured out how much steering column needed to be extended (can't be bothered explaining but mk3 spline is different to mk2). I definitely don't want to extend this piece with welding due to the torsion in it so will leave it to another time. Added knee bar bracket to exhaust tunnel, resprayed over all my scratches, rust-proofed the knee bar, pulled the loom out of the vr6 (ended up just cutting huge holes through the firewall cause I wasn't interested in pulling stuff out of the fusebox), put some body deadener down, lots of grommets put in and wiring.

Just bought a house, moving in in a couple weeks and its definitely gonna suck all my time out this year so hopefully I can still balance between the two throughout the year!

      Thomas

        Looking good as always.

The MK2 dash is worth a few $ so don't sell it cheap.

          Update: 1/04/2021

@sports racer yea I'll be hanging onto it till I find the right buyer, hopefully someone in Tas is interested down the track.

Bought a T4 van, its my dads van hes had since new and he had to upgrade to something new so I couldn't say no to buying it. Only 120000k's and basically immaculate condition. No plans for it, and I'm still wanting to keep the mk3 grocery getter so will be good for camping and moving stuff. But yes I now own 5 VW's, when will it stop? Never!

Setup my workspace in the new house, now just waiting for a bit of time to move the VR6 shell and the 2 door up into the garage and I can get crackin on with it!

          Cheers,
          Thomas

                  Update: 10/07/2021

The project goes on, VR6 will be moved first, then the mk2. Its a 3 hour trip so mk2 will be done sometime in the month.

                    Update: 26/09/2021

Yep it still goes on. VR6 donor home, engine next, then the mk2 hopefully within the month, then its continuing on with chucking everything back in.

Spent some time running the wiring through the firewall, took about 50 pictures as I unplugged everything from the fuse box, fed the wires through then plugged back in.

Fixed up the knee bar mounts. I didn't see the point in making flashy mounts, plus this was already thick steel, so I just welded shut my adjustable mounts (literally welded the bolts in) now that I know where they need to be set to and gave them a lick of paint, they ain't moving!

                    Cheers

                        Update: 14/10/2021

Its all done, many 2 hour trips done to bring all parts and cars up. I'm pretty excited about it. Big thanks to my father-in-law for all his help and teaching me heaps to get this far into the project. Now to continue...

Front suspension is all out again cause I put the wrong sized wheel bearings in (mk2 ones are different to mk3 VR6/Corrado ones) grr.

I purchased a VibraTechnics VAG800M front engine mount and cut/folded/welded the front engine bracket to suit this, so I can retain the mk2 front crossmember. I had a professional do the welding as this is a crucial structural member. I had no luck trying to source any other crossmembers.

Drilled holes through strut tower to run brake lines and sensors, the same way the mk3 does.

Chopped out the little plate for the charcoal cannister and used a mount from my other mk2 parts car to sit that in nicely!

Slowly running the wiring loom around here and there, possibly looking at needing to extend the ecu wiring loom, but I'm doing everything in my power to avoid this. ECU mounts are setup for right hand side of rain tray, but the VR6 wiring is designed for middle of the rain tray. And its really cramped in the middle in the mk2 so will possibly look at mounting it inside the cab... maybe...

                        Always more to come.
                        Cheers,
                        Thomas

I mounted my ecu under the scuttle next to the wiper motor.

Going to use a mk4 ecu bracket.

Ended up mounting it against the firewall behind the heater box unit.

I thought about that, but decided against it. If the ecu fries itself, you can't get to it too easily.

For my case I only have two bolts in the bottom, meaning I can easily remove!
