Discover Media retrofit

For anyone interested, I retrofitted a logo type RVC into my Golf Mk6 with the Discover Media. It includes dynamic steering guidelines (basically a clone of the high-line module, but appears to the car as a low-line module, as it hard taps into CAN +/- pins, rather than communicating with the CAN gateway).

Works a treat.

Also, Carsystems.pl have various harness kits for those that have the OEM RVC to make it work with the Discover Media, as well as a full OEM RVC retrofit kit specific for the Discover Media. I opted for the chinese clone above due to the cost.

Very much enjoying my Discover Media, it's so much better than any headunit I have ever had. Would recommend. The interface is just so much better, faster and easier to use, and Apple CarPlay is great. I mounted the USB port up where the user manuals are kept in the glove box, best place I could find to use put it. Also got the OEM microphone working by removing the original BT module and connecting the microphone pins to the right pinouts in the quadlock adapter.

Please can you assist.

The only way to remove CP is with ODIS online.
And then you need to activate features which needs data from a vehicle which was factory fitted with discover media.
Then the unit needs a hardware patch installed so that CP is not set again after 8 hours.

I wanted to find out if you know how to change the logo of the car when you put it into reverse?
I have an Amarok but when i put the car into reverse it shows a Jetta or some other car. I have an RCD330 and I know its the 187e version. I know it can be done through VCDS i just don't know which code to use.

RCD330 is not Discover Media.
Probably best to ask the supplier of the RCD330 how to configure it.

Is anybody if DAB+ is hardware on software only on discovery media second generation. ( with apps button not traffic button)
As the units we have now in Australia don’t have this option anymore.

Don't know if I fully understand the question given how poorly it's been stated...but I'll try and answer anyway.
Only dab units are capable of dab. You can't enable dab via software unless there is a hardware dab tuner in the system.

Why wouldn't you be able to see nav directions with an AM gateway?
Do you mean without upgrading to am?

yes, without upgrading, I asked because I readed this on your first post:

Gateway
Needs to be a 7N0 series, minimum revision of BC.
In my case I used a 7N0907530AN (upgraded to BL software 1682 as long as hardware is 056)

I´m not sure if you needed to upgrade because of your RVC highline

My current GW is:

Address 19: CAN Gateway
Protocol: CAN
Part No: 7N0 907 530 AM
Component: J533 Gateway H55 1642
Coding: 351002
Shop #: WSC 00066

You need a 7n0 gateway to be able to talk to the mib2 and for it to be able to talk to the rest of the car.
You already have one.
So you are good to go.

Can we increase the number of options on this display.
Only Steering angle, compass, oil temperature and altitudes are available.
What about all the others sensors.

Those options aren't available on retrofitted discover units as the feature requires an activation code.
Be happy to take a look at it for you but would need an adaptation channels map of your 5F infotainment unit as well as the coding and adaptation for 17 instruments.

This is not a retrofitted unit.
It's the factory OEM. Discover media. Mib2.
