  • Discover media question about volume levels:

In my case, the Android Auto media volume vs all other volumes (radio, BT audio, whatever...) is low. I.e. I always have to double the volume setting when I switch to Android Auto media, then turn it back down again if I switch back to FM radio, in order to get what sounds like consistent volume to my ears. I'm not sure whether the Android Auto media volume is low, or the rest of the volumes are high. My guess is that the rest of the volumes are high - even at only 25% volume, the radio volume is extremely loud.

I know there is a Quiet/Medium/Loud setting in the UI for BT audio (or Low/Medium/High, can't remember). I have to set it to High to be close to the radio volume, and even then the radio volume level is still noticeably louder.

Does anyone know if there is a way to change volume scales or do some other adjustment in VCDS or otherwise to help make the volume levels between different sources more consistent?

I wish/hope there were a volume Low/Medium/High setting for the radio like there is for BT audio...

I also do not know of a way to raise Android Auto media volume on the phone side. If someone knows of such a thing, that would be an effective (but still not optimal) solution too.

    • Kamold,

      Great write up, champion effort.

I installed a RCD330 & RVC in my MY08 Jetta a while back, which was great, but since recently upgrading to a newer Passat the RNS510 has been driving me nuts. I'm a little confused about the details of keeping the OEM highline camera with a new MIB 2 unit. Am I right in thinking that with a new harness, module and parametization I can keep full functionality and image quality? If that's the case I think I'll go ahead and do the upgrade. Are you still offering your services for patched units, map SDcards etc?

      • OEM highline camera doesn't work with the new discover media. They are just not compatible even with an rgbs to cvbs converter.
You can either use an aftermarket camera (which are available with moving guidelines that are based on an accelerometer, I have never seen one so can't vouch for them) or by replacing the control module and harness with a 7n0 Tiguan module.

Excellent, I'll have to start identifying my existing part numbers of my gateway and park distance controller. Cheers

          • Hello, kamold!

Is there any way to check if cp is active or inactive for a mib2 unit? If there's CP active, can i disable it with any tools or sd card software instead of going to vw dealer? I had an issue with my rvc as i told you and when i went to vw dealer they told me that the camera wasn't installed by them and they don't even want to look at my car, even if it's retrofitted with OEM equipment. I don't want to go there again for the CP to tell me the same thing because they will make me angry.

When CP is active there is a message on the screen and it is also seen in diagnostics software

                • I love my retrofitted MIB2 radio in my Passat. There is only one issue I've been having as of late. Whenever it is 2 degrees or lower (Celsius) the rear camera flakes out. When it was a little warmer, it would be black screen when I started the car first thing in the morning and on the way home (5pm so warmer out) it would be working just fine. The camera is original, and would always work, so thinking it is wiring into the MIB or the retrofit adapter for the RCA cable. Any thoughts or ideas to troubleshoot this one?

                  • If you have original camera I'm guessing you are using an RGBS to CVBS converter? They can be a bit hit and miss. You can replace the camera with a cheap aftermarket composite camera and go straight into the Discover media and get a better picture.

                    • @kamold,

I have been reading your posts here with interest. I have a Mk6 2012 R that has RNS510, dynaudio, Reverse camera and bluetooth factory fitted. I am interested in upgrading to the Discover Media system but don't have the skillset or time to complete the upgrade. Wondering if you offer this service and can supply parts. I'ld like to replicate all functionality with the current setup with the addition of Carplay and DAB.

                      Cheers

This works fine for PDC display on its own however it won't allow the reverse camera image with the PDC overlay on the left hand side. This needs to be replaced with a newer 1k8919475b. This also requires an adapter wiring harness as the connectors changed.
Hi I have retrofitted RCD310 to Discover media 5c0 035 680C mib std2 pq35 + navi. I have the same sympthoms for RVC (when tailgate open, OPS visible and icon gray, when tailgate closed rvc video visible but without OPS and without icon on left toolbar). Images here OneDrive . I would like to ask you, did you have to replace your sensors or not?

                        I have 1k0 ... 475K bosch pds module and 7L5 919 275B sensors.
Do you know if I can replace covers and sensors keeping my bumper with current holes? Does diameter of hole is different or the same for both sensors? I know that sensors has different construction, but using rubber o-ring with cover from scirocco 2015 or jetta could do the work?

                        • You don't need to replace the sensors, just the PDC module.

Are you sure that Bosch sensors will work with Valeo PDC? Guy in carsystems.eu said that Bosch sensors have different harness than for Valeo. They can help with reassign pins to new plugs when I will buy PDC from them, but in case that sensors were also valeo. I know that I can connect Valeo PDC 1k8, but I do not know if Valeo sensors has more or less wires than Bosch.

Also I wonder if parameters for different sensors will be ok to work correctly. I think that the fastest way to check if 1k8 will work with my Bosch sensors will be plugging adapter to new unit without removing anything from car.

I have both so maybe I also would be able to help you with this.

How does it compare with the Composite Media (~$1k with component protection removed) and RCD330 Plus (~$200-300) units?
Don't touch the RCD330 unless you're after a budget install. The sound will be a downgrade from your factory unit (depending what you have), and you'll forever find bugs. I pulled mine out after a little over a week and went with a Composition Media install.

CM vs DM is at a very basic level a choice between Sat Nav or not. I went CM, because no on-board navigation really compares with Google Maps, so there was not point paying extra, when everything you need comes with Android Auto / CarPlay.

Installation wise, everything was pretty straightforward with CM, albeit not quite as straightforward as an RCD330
