Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hi everyone. Sorry to those that have PM'd but got no reply - I've been mega busy the last few days. Okay so firmware...

This firmware will upgrade 187B units with Carplay to Android Auto (replacing Baidu Carlife). This has only been tested on units with the hardware version 534 so if you choose to try this update on any other HW versions then you do so at your own risk. That being said, i can't see why this wouldn't work on any of the 187B models. As always, do this update with the ignition on and be sure to let the update process complete without interruption. If you are asked for a code on restart just use 0000.

Just whack this firmware on a USB stick as is - don't extract the .tar file.

    Enjoy.

I can't seem to get it to load on my unit. It says: "No data available. Please insert a source or check the source"

      Steps that I took:
      1) Loaded the file onto a FAT32 USB
      2) Inserted USB into the head unit and clicked on "update software"

Maybe the issue is a corrupted file? I tried to extract it and its showing data error messages. Do you mind trying to reupload it?

      Thanks,

Just in case you haven’t, you actually have to click and hold the setup button for around 5 seconds. It’ll then take you to a new menu in which you select Software update/versions, then Update software, then select the Release (e.g. std_plus_pss-6.5......).

In saying that it didn’t work for me personally. It says Error: Variant conflict. I have hardware 534 and currently software 5314.

        • I should also mention thanks Bubba for sharing the link!

It’s a pity it doesn’t work for me. Anyone have any ideas what the Error: Variant conflict message might mean?

Thanks for pointing that out. I tried it again and I'm now receiving the same error message.

            • Okay, So I can confirm that the firmware posted above works perfectly and adds Android Auto on the RCD330 plus (No Name Version)

The whole process takes about 2-3 mins.

              Instructions to install this are

              1. Download and put on to a USB stick
              2. Plug into the head unit, turn on and hold the setup button for 5 secs
              3. Select software update and pick the file on the USB
              4. Wait. Mine hung for about a min at 5% then on 40% for about 15-30secs.
              5. Head unit will reboot. Done

For anyone that has issues, try another USB stick.
Also make sure you have the no name version not the Desay version. I don't believe there is any update for the Desay versions (maybe in the future).

If you're still having issues maybe you've been sold the desay version not the no name version.

              My hardware version was 534
              and software version was 5314

There are 4 languages included. For me english is enough.

              • Hey guys.

Thanks bubba for the link to the firmware update, I have been successful with my installation, I have both a Apple and Android phone (one personal one work phone), both are working fantastic with the head unit.

I have a gripe though, my OEM RVC doesnt seem to want to work in my MK6 Golf GTI. I have changed the code in VCDS so now it comes up with the reverse camera when I select reverse, however the screen is blank, which eventually goes to saying that the camera is not available at the time. I have a converter which goes from the 26 pin connector to the blue little connector, with a ACC+ going out. This has a fuse holder on it so I plugged it into the interior fuse box. However, this still gives me a blank screen.

This is the adaptor I bought from EBay:

                Any ideas guys?

Sorry if this is telling you how to suck eggs, but did you also connect the ground wire to an earth point?

Which circuit did you use in the fuse box?
Does that circuit actually have an active switched 12v supply?
Is the fuse plugged in the right way up?

What is in the link on the end of the power wire is an 'add-a-fuse' which is meant to piggyback off an existing circuit such as the 12v accessories fuse (cigarette lighter) and then you plug the existing fuse into the second fuse holder in your add-a-fuse

All good, but sorry if mine is similar in a tone:

"Did you also connect the ground wire to an earth point?"
                    - There's actually no ground wire

"Which circuit did you use in the fuse box?"
                    - I plugged it both into the cigarette lighter fuse and also tried the radio fuse

"Does that circuit actually have an active switched 12v supply?"
                    - Well I assume so, not sure why you'd have a fuse adaptor otherwise

"Is the fuse plugged in the right way up?"
                    - Yeah man, it's in there tighter than Mike Tyson and my friendship

"What is in the link on the end of the power wire is an 'add-a-fuse' which is meant to piggyback off an existing circuit such as the 12v accessories fuse (cigarette lighter) and then you plug the existing fuse into the second fuse holder in your add-a-fuse"
                    - Wait, you just asked me "Does that circuit actually have an active switched 12v supply?", sorry but what?

                    • Hello everyone

I have a 2006 Škoda Octavia II (the Golf MK5's Škoda cousin)

I have a Skoda columbus head unit in my car (the VW RNS 510's Škoda cousin )

My car has a factory fitted DSP with the 12-speaker sound system. Here is a picture of the DSP:

I have read through the entire thread and I am ready to pull the trigger on an RCD330 with android auto, but I just wanted to make sure it will work with my car's DSP - I have read that people have managed to get it working with Dynaudio / Fender sound systems by disconnecting and re-connecting the battery - will this trick also work for my car? My hope is that since the RCD330 works with the VW sound systems, it can work with skoda's as well?

Here are the coding values I have applied to my Columbus to get it working with the DSP

BYTE 1: 02 Skoda Sound System (CAN DSP)

BYTE 2: 00 Sound System (active speakers)

BYTE 4: 01 Speaker Monitoring: Inactive (Sound System)

                      BYTE 5: 01 Equalization: Seat Altea (5P) / Skoda Octavia (1Z)

                      My concern is BYTE 1:

the skoda sound system is marked as CAN DSP, while the VW/Dynaudio/Fender sound-systems are marked as BAP DSP - dunno what this entails

                      Your inputs are greatly appreciated

Here is an autoscan of my car if it is of help (truncated to show the radio and sound system modules as not able to post it fully due to character limit):

                      Code:

"Is the fuse plugged in the right way up?"

Hey mate, not sure about your connector, but with the connector I bought (26 PIN RGB to CVBS (RCA) AV Converter for Volkswagen Factory Original Camera Output to After Market Head Unit DVD-in Vehicle Camera from Automobiles & Motorcycles on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group) you need to wire the +12V to power and the red and yellow wires into pins 6 and 12 of the B block of the quad-lock connector. The red wire carries the signal for the camera to my knowledge.

Not sure if that helps or not?

                          Hmm it does.

I might give it a go. Looks like you can skip the yellow and red and just use an RCA to MIB connector instead.

Without a ground I'm confused as to how this converter is supposed to work. Did they supply a wiring diagram?
You are getting 12v from a known switched (as opposed to constant) 12v power source (accessories), but without a ground there is nowhere for the voltage to flow to....the 26pin multimedia connector does not have a ground pin.

The polarity of the fuse is important. Is the 'tail' of your add-a-fuse pointing up or down when installed in the fuse box?

The RGBS to composite converter requires a power source, it won't do any converting if you just plug in video in and video out.

I've used the one from Aliexpress and it works very well. You tap 12v power and ground from the quadlock harness going into the radio, then ignore the 'reverse' wire.

My thoughts too, I didn't know how exactly it's supposed to be powered as such.

Polarity is fine, I had it the right way.

Yeah I know, the fuse I tried was the stereo and cigarette lighter fuses, both were working when I replaced it with the fuse holder so I assume there's power running through the fuse.

I might look at what you are currently using then, and see if that works. Thanks for the help!

                              • Hey guys, need a little help.

From what i gathered, the 187B model is the one that comes with Android Auto and Car play.

Im looking to purchase this one:

Crngiar6.5" MIB Carplay App Car Radio RCD300 RCD510 RCD330 RCD330g Plus For VW Tiguan Golf 5 6 Jetta MK5 MK6 Passat Polo Touran-in Car Radios from Automobiles & Motorcycles on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group

My car is a 2007 golf GTI.

Will i need both the ISO quadlock and CAN bus? if so can i purchase this?

Aliexpress.com : Buy RCD330 Plus MIB RCD330G Plug&Play ISO Quadlock Adapter Cable Wire CANBUS Simulator For VW Golf Jetta 5 6 MK5 MK6 Passat B6 Polo from Reliable simulator cable suppliers on HEYCAR UPGRADE CLUB Store

Is this anything else i would need to be concerned about?

From my understand, the steering wheel buttons will not be usable?

                                Thank you kindly
