It works! Thanks for the tip on not needing to tap into the reverse light wiring to get the trigger.

Can confirm no issues without the delay timer. All works properly on this version of the RCD330 (187b Cringar Android Auto).

Now to run the wiring through the car...haha

I have a factory boot button RVC, that I know has the yellow lines, but they don't show up.

All done.

Ran the wiring up the left hand side of the car, used the ground/earth at the rear left of the hatch area, soldered the black cable from the camera to a ring connecter suitable for the size of the ground post (which is held by a 10mm nut)

Used a heavy duty T-tap into the power cable on the radio quadlock below the BAT+ cable (see pics in previous posts), red power wire (runs with the yellow video plug) into this tap. Soldered the other end of this at the rear of the car to the red power wire from the camera.

Yellow RCA video cable is plugged into the head unit with the blue adapter that fits into a quadlock slot supplied with my head unit.

When the car is placed into reverse, the camera pic comes up 1 second later on the head unit. Switches off after 8 seconds in a non-reverse gear or over 15km/h ish. No problems that would require the delay box. Lines don't move with the steering, just there for indication/decoration.

Unsure. I did read somewhere that the 187b may not need a delay timer, turned out to be true in my case.

Possibly the camera. I had pre-installed this camera when I took the bumper off to do a towbar install. Couldn't see any options to turn the lines off at a quick glance in the headunit menu.

Others may know more.

You're not going to have the problem of the head unit getting confused when it loses the signal from the camera...because you aren't cutting power to it.
You have it constantly powered ie the reverse camera is always on.

This isn't the ideal way of setting it up as the iris on these cheap cameras are prone to burn out if constantly powered.
The preferred solution is to tap 12v power from the reverse light circuit using a digital delay relay/filter.

This will keep the camera powered for 10 seconds after leaving reverse so that if you are manouvering into a parking spot for example and you then go back to reverse, the camera is still powered so the head unit will still have the reverse image feed coming in.

There is nothing wrong with powering the camera itself constantly as such, you just may find you cause the camera an early death and end up having to replace it.
All factory solutions only power the camera when in use and switch it off then driving forward for this reason.

I have the delay relay here still, might change the wiring over the weekend when I have a little more time.

So...just checking. On a Mk6 Golf, blue reverse wire to a reverse wire in the hatch door, black to ground point, red being + is it OK to continue using the headunit power feed I have (wire it to the relay obviously) or is there a better way?

Does that sound right?

Just trigger off the reverse light circuit. Just need to take the boot trim out same as for the camera installation.

i seem to have newer firmware (5406) but i have no siri audio when using carplay. Android auto works fine, however

edit: managed to get it from the seller, all is good now (other than the volume issue after using siri).

With a 2006 if you haven't already updated the gateway I would very strongly suspect you will need to do so.

You cannot update a non AA head unit with the AA firmware, it has been confirmed that this doesn't work. You need to buy the Crngiar RCD330 from Ali Express.
