  • Hmm OK, the clunk driving forward doesn't seem like its out of order, just very noticable. Seeing as my Mk2 RS didn't have the hill holding it makes sense there as well.

I don't get a rattle near the drivers door like some have but do hear something with a light tap every now and again so have assumed its the fuel hose. The strusts have liquid on them I assumed was lubricant, but the lowering down and hitting me in the head I hadn't noticed until twice in Feb on a steep slope it sagged.

    • Mines booked at Skoda this Wednesday to have the tailgate struts checked - mainly so they have parts for when it goes for service in a few weeks

      • Actually on the note of power tailgate, more often than not lately, it just beeps at me and doesn't lift. If I press it again, it will beep again, or sometimes then work. I'm guessing I'm pressing it too long or too short and its in manual mode where you hold it to raise or something but damn its annoying. Why they didn't use the foot waving thing I'll never know as they weren't exactly new tech when the Mk3 came out.

You can change settings in vcds, disable beeps - winner and close from key / inside car

If you just press it it will unlock the boot (providing the car itself is looked otherwise it just beeps)
If you hold it until it beeps then let go the boot should open.

Mine always seems to open when I press it, regardless of how long I press the button (the physical button on the tailgate itself)

HOWEVER, if I just press the button on the keyfob a bit quickly, it will just unlock it without opening it.
I need a definite long press on the keyfob to make it auto-open.

This seems like a superfluous process..... what good is unlocking the boot, without opening it?
Why would the program it in such a manner?
What benefit is there to unlocking the boot, without actually opening it?

Or is there clearly a programming issue with these that is a warranty issue?

I would assume it's to stop you opening the tailgate with keys in pocket etc
If you bump the button and boot unlocks, it should then relock in 30seconds if not opened
This is also most likely for those cars with out the electric tailgate open and carrys over

of course.... I didn't even think of that.

As well as manual tailgates without auto-open.

My key won't close it nor will the button inside as we couldn't get it to enable last year with VCDS, will have another try with Hawk sometime when my life is less busy. It usually just opens, but occasionally it does this beeping business which can get frustrating. Sometimes I just wait about 10 sec and press it again as otherwise it will just keep beeping each time I try.

                    • I think the button inside only opens if the car is moving less than 6km/h.
Next Time I have VCDS, I want to up that to about 10/15 km/h

Do you have kids that need to jog into the car?

I find the no closing option from inside by default a bit dangerous, my wife hit it by mistake last year when we were in an undercover carpark and I had to run out and stop it from hitting pipes above us as there was no way to stop it.

From the factory the boot won't auto open (at least my16 and prior) with a press of the key fob. So with this in mind it is designed to unlock just the boot so you can open it by the boot button without the whole car unlocking. I.e. You are just putting stuff in the rear and moving on. It will then auto lock when you shut it again by the button on the boot.

Not all models have kessy so won't recognize you are near by and open when you press the boot button.
