Re manual gearbox my Mk2 wqas notchy for a good while and my Mk3 has done 6k and is still a bit like it. I'm noticing that I'm skipping across gears more as the ratios are either different or the engines a bit different. The car is also telling me to go up 2 gears as well. The mk2 never had that function where it displays suggestd gears.

I know the Mk2 vRS TSI is lower ratio - redline (6.5k) in 2nd is 80km/h, and so on.
Anybody else seen this?2012 Octavia vRS TDI. Darkside big turbo, 3bar tune, other stuff. 200kW/650Nm.
1990 Mk1 Cabrio. 1.9 IDI w/ 18PSI.
1985 Mazda T3500 adventuremobile. 1973 Superbug. 1972 Volvo 144 in poo-brown.
Not including hers...

Yes, that was the point I was making about my manual 1.4tsi gearing.
Second gear at maximum revs is close to 100kph extrapolated from indicated revs at 50kph.
Seems unnecessarily high for such a small engine seeing as how it has a 6 speed box.
The DSG 7th gear runs the 1.4tsi engine a couple of hundred revs lower than top (6th) on the manual at 110 kph so it is not as if the manufacturer does not recognise this fact.
I think it is just the manufacturer gearing to get good official economy results and compromising real life economy results as a consequence.
The official fuel test does not even allow the use of a sixth gear on a manual at the 120kph top speed requirement.
An auto does not have this restriction in the test which is why you often see better official results for an auto version.

Most cars will get close to 100km/h (or a bit higher) in second gear. Gives a good 0-100km/h time.
And when you have turbo engines with moderate rev limits and max torque in the lower half of the rev range there is not need to very low gearing.Last edited by pologti18t; 16-11-2016, 11:48 PM.

Agree upto a point but we have a lot of traffic calming mini roundabouts on our back streets and when performing a right turn on one I have to go a bit faster than I really want to around it in 2nd, or slip the clutch, or change down to 1st, which I have never had to do in any previous car, including the diesel mk2 with one less gear.
As I said before I think it contributes a bit to the 1st/2nd change issues. 3rd/2nd is no problem at all.Last edited by Gerrycan; 17-11-2016, 12:47 AM.

So I sent an email to p3cars to ask if they had plans to make a gauge for the 5E. Seeing as they have one for the millionth 7 gti and it connects to the obd port you would think a redesign of the screen shape to fit the vent and Wa Lah, a nice gauge.
Seems it not that simple. Below is the response I received.
Andrew,
Thank you for contacting us. We currently do not have enough demand to develop for the 5E. Typically, we will not develop for an unscheduled platform unless we have at least 20 people commit by pre-ordering the gauge. At that point we would begin the development process and as long as there were no impassible obstacles, we would bring the gauge into production. If at any time in the future this is able to happen, we would look further into development for this platform.
Thank you again for your interest, please let us know if you have any more questions.
I'm sure I'm not the only one that would like a p3 gauge. I ask if you would like one to send them an email expressing your interest so they start to build one for the 5E platform.
If you don't know what they are here is the link.
P3 Cars - Custom Integrated Mult-Function Gauges
To sum it up There are 2 types.
The first is a boost/vacuum, voltage which plums in with lines ect. This one is cheap but requires more installation.
The second is a obd multi gauge that requires little install and has more functions but has more cost. on current exchange rate and based on the mk 7 golf price I would estimate between $550 - $600 with postage.Last edited by LunchboxVRS; 22-11-2016, 02:20 PM.

And as for the ultra gauge the screen is awful and dosnt match the car at all. The Bluetooth version means your phone needs to be placed in eyes view which again is awful. Personnel taste of course but the p3 is as close to a factory look you will get until polar pull there finger out.
