I'm guessing we must have been served by the same lass then. Which is interesting, because she couldn't do me the deal for my RS. I ended up going to the GC and got (what I think is) a good deal from the guy there. Plus, I'm lucky I got it delivered in 3 weeks - none of this 6 month waiting BS that others have had to put up with.

          • Yeah I had emailed the GC place and had a couple of phone calls but they are 2 hours drive from home so never got there. Car I bought was in stock so no waiting either, got over 6.5k off list plus the 19in Xtrem wheels.

We bought out RS from the Gold Coast as well. Great dealership. We had a less than desirable experience in Brisbane so we headed down south to get ours.

                That's understandable then.

Glad you got a good deal. Still irks me why Bris dealership was adamant they couldn't do a deal when I clearly signalled I was ready to buy there and then. I found the experience there quite patronising, suggesting that the price I offered was not doable, to the point that they explicitly stated they were not going to come out running after me to do the deal. Even more so now that I know the sort of discount that can be done there.
It would have saved me a great deal of time buying closer to home.

Did you also get the baseball cap, keyring and flowers? How long ago did you get your RS? Bris must have upped their customer service after our visits just in time for Jondalar

We did! The wife loved the flowers. We even got the new dog harness thrown in as Rob was well aware we have a dog and are dog lovers. He was more than happy to do a deal, and was flexible on dates to pick up the car etc.

We got our RS only on the weekend past, but we tried Brisbane back in May. Our Brisbane experience wasn't fantastic, and I have heard similar, or worse stories. But it was well worth going to the Gold Coast to get ours, and we got the car we wanted as well.

To be blunt, you didn't buy the same car. Had he been looking for an RS likely it would be the same outcome but the Style is slower moving so I can see why they went further to move it. RS you can kiss a lot of discount when people are waiting so long for them. My first RS was in stock in 2008 and I paid no onroad with a heap of extras. To get the same car in 2015 cost me $10k more and felt like I had extracted internal organs to get that price.

That doesn't explain why the GC could do a much better deal than Bris. I bought mine in January this year, just as Skoda introduced the free DSG promo on selected Octavias (RS included). I visited the Bris showroom first and the GC dealer days later, and I find it unbelievable that Bris had no knowledge of the promo at the time but the GC did, hence deal was done there.

I also recall one of the first things the GC dealer asked me was why did I come all the way to the GC and did Bris not treat me well. It made it sound like that happens quite often or the GC knows that Bris has dropped their game.

Between dealers is always different, but you were asking why they did someone else get a good deal at the Bris mob and not you. It will be because they wanted to shift the Style but clearly had no issues selling the RS. Also would be why they didn't want to discount much. The more desperate the dealer the more they will do. I had one new dealer throwing things at me without even wanting to buy and the other wouldn't budge when they knew I was coming to buy as they get the bulk of sales locally. Also depends on what local stock places have. One dealer had just got a heap of MY15 stock in so wanted them shifted as he knew people wanted the MY16s that they could now order.

                          • While I agree that they are different cars the listed price with all the options for the RS and Style diesel were almost identical, and that didn't include paying anything for the 19in wheels. I had gone there intending to focus on the RS but just couldn't live with the harsh ride, specially compared to the GTI performance I'd driven. Both cars were in stock, so maybe they would've been flexible, I doubt you ever get much of a discount on car not in stock. Mine is MY16 btw.

                            Cheers,
                            Karl

                              • Hey has anyone noticed the black plastic covering the door frame on the front doors is getting scratches from the door seal which is part of the rear door. My Mk2 had just body coloured paint there, but noticed that the high shine plastic (which I thought was actually black paint) is all getting scratched up on the inside edge. There is nothing but slight dust on the door seal so doesn't look good for a 3mth old car.
