I'd take anything you hear from them with a grain of salt. When I was buying my RS (late 2014, delivered mid 2015), the spec in the brochure (printed and online) said the RS had the Adaptive Chassis Control (which I assume is what you are referring to as "active dampers") and when I enquired about where the setting was (because I couldn't find it on the demo vehicles I had driven) I was assured by them that it was there and that it worked the same as the GTI performance.

They subsequently realised their mistake and quietly revised the brochure.

    • Yep its hard to find out anything, I think half the time Skoda/VAG here don't know and just get what they are given. Certainly noone seemed to realise their first Superb demos would be missing the things they were until they landed.

NZ can import whatever they like, and there isn't a SKoda dealer there, it's an importer whereas we are bound to VWA here.

      • According to Briskoda the UK system are no longer accepting orders for the 230. There is discussion that it is probably to make way for production line changes for the mid-life update.
Seems odd as some other countries are reporting they can still order.

        • The UK have had them for absolutely ages, I thought by the time I was due to order late last year they would be well and truly available. I'd say we are getting the very last run before a whole new update comes through for the Mk3.

yeah there are some shopped images on some European Skoda sites that show some ugly 'dual lens' headlights on the MY17 Octavia that makes it look like previous gen E-Class Merc.
Not sure what the update could offer from the VW parts bin that isn't now standard on the MY16 models.
I'd speculate and say maybe electric handbrake to switch on traffic assist from the Superb, annoying blind spot monitoring lights in the mirrors, digital dash of the new Audi's, 169kw spec engine of RS230 or Golf Gti Performance, maybe adaptive suspension (if RS230 doesn't show up with it). Not much else that its lacking. Maybe 'trailer assist' from the new Tiguan on the Scout?

In regards to adaptive dampeners, I recently drove a friends current model Audi S3 also fitted with 19's and what I'd assume to be the same adaptive dampener technology as the European RS230 and Golf Performance and must say that I found it terrible to drive with around town in the sport setting. If anything I'd want the adaptive to go the other way and make it softer so the 19's are easier to live with. I think the ride in the RS on 19's is great compared to what I had beforehand but I'd like to soften it up a bit when I've got the oldies in the car or friends that kick around is SUV's normally. The RS Octavia on 18's or 19's would be an unbeatable cross country 'tourer' if I could 'tone down' the suspension on the highway but I don't think it has an option to go that way, only firmer.

Have a look at the prices they pay and the things we get standard are additional cost options there.

                • we have the S3 with the adaptive dampers and it's left permanently on comfort. Both on 19s, the S3 is a lot stiffer than our Octy, but I guess the marketing people had to make sure they were spaced apart enough to make sure the S3 was much more 'sporty' for the extra money

I mistakenly assumed the Octy had adaptive dampers as the Golf and even the Polo GTI have it, but probably am not too bothered - its ride height is a bit high for my liking anyway so may go visit my friendly KW dealer soon

                  • on a separate topic, does anybody get the 'Telephone not available' message on the dash when you hit the phone button on the steering wheel? I have heard an update is required but the only Skoda dealer in town is not a place I'd like to go to.

I'm hearing ya Lams, thus I went North about 100km for a better experience. Beach day soon?...

Just don't want to find it's an option or standard in 6 months time. Thus I keep asking dealer/Skoda AU.
Cheers for the feedback, prob would leave in comfort until 'fun times'.

Hmm is this related to service or purchase? So far I've only got the purchase to go by, and it was one of the better purchase experiences I've ever had, might depend which salesperson you get though...

Re the adaptive suspension, I test drove a Golf GTI Performance with it and thought it was great. On the comfort setting it was probably at least as plush as the ride in my Octavia Style with the 19in wheels, probably smoother. Sport was firm but not too bad. Interestingly I rejected buying an RS as I found it way too niggly over small bumps.

                          Cheers,
                          Karl

                          • So, I just got the car service reviewed by MSX ( skoda's qa team ) on Wednesday at Peter Warren. Free service to boot!
                            My14 RS wagon.

                            Issues on top of the standard service;
                            1) driver's side rattle at 1800rpm.
                            Fuel pipe fixed.
                            2) upgrade navigation maps.
No map available. Dealership advised that the map will be available in 4 weeks.
the wait just keeps going. Fark this is epic.
Dealership will advise when to book again for map update
If and when it happens, I'll make sure everyone in a pre 2015 Octy knows!
                            3) front door seal /weep. Aka.'Wee-ing doors.'
They identified a blocked weep hole. But even after a wash it retained water, and then the service team commented that "it's by design". Wish I was there to have a go at them!
I remember seeing someone post the new part numbers for the modified seals? Link anyone?
                            4) wagon hatch hydraulic dampers leaking oil.
                            Replaced.
                            5) interior centre vent trim decal (chrome trim de-laminating)
Back order. Dealership will advise when to book again.

Related to dealership not wanting the sell cars. I shouldn't be chasing sales reps to buy a 50K car.
I guess you bought from Sunny coast way?

No, I bought from Brisbane. I found the female sales rep amazing as did my wife. I did have poor follow up to an earlier phone query from a different sales rep though.
