Group Buy / EOI new generation DNS head units (RNS-510 alternative)
I checked my unit last night and the warranty sticker has been cut too. Im definitely going to need some reassurance from Sandy that my warranty wont be affected...

Yeah its like someone has run a razor blade along the gap where the top panel comes off. I'd say to sort the can bus issue just before they were sent out as someone previously mentioned. Its a bit weak that they couldn't crack it to replace the sticker though. If someones warranty claim gets rejected bt AS because of it (especially considering how buggy these things are) I wouldn't want to be Sandy. It puts him in a pretty horrible position.
Oh wow. The first post definitely used to say it was a capacitive touch screen..... One of the big things I was looking forward to and disappointed by when I received the unit.
You know, I was wondering that myself. I didn't take the screen protector off of my unit (to avoit any marks or anything to void returns) so I just thought that perhaps that was causing the screen to not act like a capacitive screen. That's a rip off right there as that's one reason why I bought this unit. So really its using the ans screen.
Wonder if the prerelease units are being made and nnot using finalized hardware, like the screen
Well, not sure what he will do when he finds out that there is more than just 1 person with a unit that's not functioning property hardware wise, things will either hit the fan come December or things will get fixed properly
I do think that before we all get the knives and pitch forks out we should wait till he gets back and give him a chance to defend himself & do the right thing. I think that if he had his way any faulty units will be replaced no problems but if AS decide otherwise then it might be a different story. Only time will tell and unfortunately we all just have to wait.
I wouldn't take the screen protectors off, in fact I wouldn't even bother installing the unit given the known hardware problems, it's just asking for an argument with Sandy.
When he offered the money back guarantee he reinforced that in order to make good on the guarantee the unit had to have no marks or scratches and have all original packaging.
I'm not sure why you guys are risking it
After the unit was found not to work in cold weather the sensible thing would be to remove it from the car and just send it back
You guys are taking a big risk, if Sandy says "the sticker says void if removed", or "it has had the protective film removed so it can't be sold as new anymore" etc then you will have a $700 paperweight
Sandy held his ground VERY firmly with me and wouldn't issue a full refund until someone else took my place
And that was a dispute for $100
Can you imagine him returning from an expensive holiday to find the hardware issues?
Hey not trying to be a prick but can you just stay out of this forum since you clearly are not interested in the DNS anymore? We have all heard your story and it's funny that I have had the exact opposite experience with Sandy and a few others have as well. We get there are problems, we get you have a problem with Sandy. Let it be and let us talk about how to improve and make this work.

+1 thanks for being the first to say it. So over the negativity.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure which office of the Internet police your from asking me not to post.
If you don't want to read my posts I suggest you avert your eyes.
He just said what everyone else was thinking...
How about we stop the bashing and negativity and put all the effort into getting these units either in good working condition or replaced if need be...

That was exactly my point. We may all find ourselves screwed in this deal but let's at least work on solutions an make this work.
Yep agreed with the above comments. Let's please leave out the negativity towards Sandy as he's copped a handful already and we should hold off the discussion regarding warranty/returns once he's back.
Understandably this has been a frustrating process for all of us involved, but lets try and focus on the current/potential issues and the ways we can resolve them.
By the way I've listed out a few bugs on the google spreadsheet, but haven't had a chance to post here.
From my experience so far, it's leaps and bounds above the RCD500 that was in the car before. Extremely pleased with the responsiveness of the unit, however haven't had too much experience with other touchscreen type units. Took a little while getting used to the capacitive touch screen for obvious reasons (smart phones, tablets), but once you get it there's no issues.
The minor issues I have with my unit:
- Once the unit is turned on, the unit makes a sound for a brief moment which I can't really describe (it's as if something inside the unit is repositioning itself, possibly the DVD component).
- Brief flickering of the backlight when turned on for a couple of seconds.
- Constant static/hissing noise regardless of source chosen and volume turned all the way down (in a completely silent environment - most likely wouldn't hear this while driving).
- When I turn the unit off and it goes into the standby screen, the correct date and time is shown (as I've set this up), but the day is wrong.

Calm and rational discussion will get us through this, not getting angry and pissed off at everyone/thing.
Picked mine up from the post office today and got it installed a few hours ago.
I havent had a chance to thoroughly test yet but it seems to be going good like modas (this is without a sd card, hopefully I can test that next week when mine arrives - ebay )
I've noticed a couple bugs similar to others that have been posted but the first thing (and I'm surprised no one has picked up on this) is that its not a capacitive touch screen, still resistive. Unless I read that wrong initially, I was expecting it to work like a modern smart phone instead of my old rcd unit. It seems more sensitive and better than my stock unit, was just thinking it would be different is all.
*the GPS doesn’t like roundabouts. Mine is a little slow on 90 degree corners but roundabouts seem to confuse it a bit. I can try to upload a video if you guys wanna see what I mean. I’ve never had a GPS unit before so I don’t know if they all act that way, but I wouldn’t have thought so.
Oh I have a question, does it matter which way I face the GPS receiver? It’s currently sitting upside down with the cable 90 degrees from the unit so its sideways when you think about it, will that affect how it picks up its signal?
Yea, I thought it was going to be a capacitive screen too, not resistive. Hrm.
RE the GPS, that's what iGo is like, it's a bit funny around roundabouts and corners. Has been for the few years i've used it. iGo is pretty much the only WinCE GPS app worth using, really. I liked Sygic, but it was pretty basic and getting updated maps was basically impossible, and the other apps are pretty old and basic/crash lots. In my experience iGo has been really solid, stable, maps are always updated and there seems to be a good/healthy support/customization community around it.
GPS antenna placement shouldn't matter, once it locks on and figures out your direction of travel it will be fine
