  • Looks awesome Sandy

Looks to be significantly faster than any WinCE unit i've ever used, and as fast, if not faster, than any OEM or third party unit i've ever used too.

Nice. One of the biggest tests is scrolling around the map in Primo, that always brings units to a crawl but the DNS seemed to handle it with ease.

Keen to see the iPod interface and how fast that is.

    • Thanks for the video Sandy.
      I have three questions:
1- what is your impression of the FM tuner, is it as good as stock?
2 -one of my concerns is screen brightness being too bright at night. what is your view on the nighttime(low) setting. is it stock equivalent
3- i couldn't see any option for Aux in, does it exist?

        • Awesome video - looking forward to the next one

Sorry if this has been asked before but will there be DAB radio functionality? Doesn't look like there is from the video and there's no mention on the front page but for some reason I was under the impression there would be.

Me too. I think if you use and app like Tap Talk or something it doesn't like YouTube videos.

Sandy, need you to confirm that these are absolutely going to be part of this unit's specifications. I am not naive enough to think newer models with newer technology will be inevitable in a year or two but.....
There are a few internal differences with the DNS series that makes things easier to upgrade in the future too. I spoke to the manager earlier tonight and he said that from the testing so far he thinks for mirroring to work like they originally intended (with full control through the unit), they would need to use an external module. Again though, these are all able to be added to the DNS just like the trip recorder. MFD functionality is based on the CAN-Bus decoder, and the main difference with the DNS series is that the CAN-Bus software can be updated via firmware so no hardware is needed. The only thing I can't be sure of is MFD phonebook, i.e. whether a module to simulate an OEM phone module would be needed to unlock phonebook display in the MFD.

You didn't show the blue tooth. .but can you confirm it works? And does it show info in the mdf steering wheel?
The software should be finalised this week yes so delivery is a few weeks away. BT does work and MFD does work too, though right now MFD functionality is the same with the ANS series. They're focussing on bugfixes to get the product ready for release right now.

I thought if I was to show a video, I might as well spice it up

moda is correct it is the House episode... having a lesbian in the show was probably a cheap shot, but still there are no complaints when it's Olivia Wilde

The FM tuner appears as good as stock to me. The last time I took a long drive with this sample unit to a rural area, the signal didn't miss a beat.

I wouldn't know if the screen brightness on low is stock equivalent, but it is definitely suitable for night time viewing.

Aux in does exist, but I think I mentioned before the unit has its own RCA aux-in connection from the back. There's 1 aux video and 1 aux L + R audio in.

DAB+ will be an addon module in the future, I don't have an ETA yet on that though.

We won't be paying extra for the mirroring "external module", correct?

I hope not, but at the end of the day it depends on how much Audiosources will charge me, if they do. I can't possibly send free modules to 80+ people if Audiosources charges me $50 per module for example... But I'll do what I can.

                            • Brutal. It's a shame we're operating on a sliding price scale but I guess that's what happens when the production and development are all over the place. You'd think you'd (meaning Audiosources) look in to these things before telling people you can offer it.

I'm not sure how many Americans are in on this, but I would think this is the key criteria for them, as it is for me, because, as has been discussed in the past, we won't have navigation software out of the box. Fingers crossed for some clarity on this ASAP because I might not be able to participate if there isn't a solid understanding of when/how this will be implemented.

American here as well. I knew going into this it wouldn't be smooth sailing, but that is the price of being a bleeding edge beta tester for companies(at least that is how it feels).

I only use my steering wheel co trips to mute/volume/track changes, so I won't be to sad if it ends up being an external module.

......that is as long as DKN gives us group buyers a discounted price for said module! :p
