Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VW must be so embarrassed they can't even admit that it didn't do anything.....it was completely irrelevant to our market.
    So
They should have simply said so and advised that it would be removed during a scheduled service.

    • What we need is a cashed up forum member to dyno their car before it goes in, and dyno it when it comes back...

      • While I am not cashed up, however that is certainly part of my plan if the recall becomes mandatory. I have 5 years worth of fuel economy data for the Caddy, I will get it dynoed before it goes in for the recall and get it dynoed after to determine if there has been a impact on performance.

        • It is the other possible changes that maybe harder to measure like ERG that I would be concerned about.

          • Agreed, hence if remains a voluntary recall, my Caddy will be skipping the recall.

            • Have just had close to end of 3year warranty carried out.
I still have a two year extended warranty!
Have been advised by dealer service I can opt out by signing a relevant statement.
BUT will then this be used by insurance to deny payment for problem if not carried out?

What possible problem could arise that involves emissions that an insurance company would be interested in?

                  In a practical sense, none.

They might try & get you on a loophole as most insurance T&Cs state the vehicle has to be roadworthy (or words to that effect).

As I've seen insurance pay out on vehicles with stuffed brakes, bald tyres & rust holes you could poke a finger through, I really doubt they would attempt to deny a claim based on emissions.

Also, as NSW doesn't do emissions testing as part of the yearly Safety Check for vehicles >5yrs old, I really doubt it's an avenue of pursuit as emissions obviously aren't considered a safety item.

I'd imagine that if the manufacture/distributor considered the fix optional it really couldn't be counted as something that affects the roadworthiness of the car. That said, it's a sad reflection on the insurance industry that many people immediately get concerned that they could lose their cover based on a pursuit by their insurance company to find a way to avoid paying out.

                    • Other manufacturers are not happy now either
Automakers from Detroit to Tokyo are paying a price for Volkswagen AG's emissions cheating scandal as environmental regulators intensify their scrutiny to root out violations. Regulators are taking an extra-long look at new-vehicle emissions before giving their stamp of approval, a trend that could delay vehicle launches.

                        Hi Cossor,

Our Passats have not been slated for the recall as yet. The Amaroks are the first cab off the rank. It will be months before we get our recall and by then the results from the first vehicles recalled will be known.

I personally wouldn't be signing away my rights to the recall. I would firmly but politely inform the dealer that I wish to exercise my option to delay the ECU reflash. As I wrote in previous posting, I may not want the reflash, but the next owner may.

                          • Just wait and see how the revised ECU mapping works out in the real world. VW have already stated that it shouldn't make any noticeable difference besides the obvious NOx output, but you never know.
