Volkswagen under investigation over illegal software that masks pollution
Good point, I'll restrain my response. As others have tried to explain, this is going in circles.
I propose that future comments be similarly restrained. And, toned down. Enquiries, links & discussion.
Rants & aggression will be responded to in same manner.
Hate breeds hate. Anger breeds anger.

...and how nice would it be if the whole world did the same...
I started reading MB's Retainer & Costs Agreement.
I'd HIGHLY recommend that anyone contemplating signing up to ANY class action take a VERY CLOSE HARD look at the full agreement. You're responsible for carrying out your own due diligence before you commit. If you don't quite understand the terminology used in the Agreement or the phrasing of the clauses contained therein, FIND OUT.

No doubt there's quite a lot of legalese in there.
I'm suspecting that there's going to be something indicating a range of costs that will be incurred on an hourly basis being done by the lawyers and payment for these services will firstly come out of the settlement which may come from Volkswagen. The remainder will be distributed evenly amongst those signed up to the class action. So probably in reality when there's something close to $1000/hour, costs of $2/photocopy plus other miscellaneous sundry, after the initial fees are settled, the members of the class action gets a Snickers bar each?

Based on my reading of the contract, claimants may even end up with a LEGAL bill if the settlement amount doesn't cover the litigation costs + disbursements + uplift fees. But hey, I may be wrong.

I heard that Mauris. Blackburn today launched a legal action in the Supreme Court. It is seeking $10,000 for every person who has registered a class action with them .

Absolutely incorrect according to the email I got on Monday We have till next Friday to formally join the action and it clearly states we WILL NOT BE ASKED TO CONTRIBUTE ANY MONEY upfront and that they recoup their fees out of the settlement money.
I have asked them what do they charge, like hourly rates etc or a % of the total settlement. Havent had an answer yet.

VW demonstrates a fix for the 1.6-liter TDI engine
Three months after the Volkswagen diesel emissions blow-up was uncovered, we're moving into the second phase of the scandal – one that could be called "The Fix". A VW Group spokesman in Germany said the company has solutions for some of the affected EA 189 motors, but not the 1.2-liter units.
It demonstrated the solution for the 1.6-liter diesels to Germany's Federal Motor Transportation Authority (KBA) on Monday, according to a report in Automotive News Europe. That solution, which involves hardware and software changes, is being evaluated by the KBA. If it is approved, VW can move forward with recalling and fixing roughly 540,000 VW Group vehicles in Germany fitted with the 1.6-liter. Assuming that process goes well, it still might take more than a year to complete; it's been suggested that new injection nozzles and catalytic converters are needed, and it will take months to get those parts in quantity simply to service just one country, Germany.
Beyond those borders, ANE says VW will need parts for something like 3.6 million engines in Europe alone. Another five million cars among the range of EA 189 displacements will join the recall, but it's said that most of them will only need software fixes. VW says it should have its plan for the European recall situation sorted out by the middle of next month.

I have asked the questions of Maurice Blackburn and the answer is that if they dont win enough to cover the costs they wear it. The amount they take is quite acceptable also and if they win they say the loser usually pays the winners legal costs so we wont be out of pocket at all.
Pm Me for more precise details as I cant post the email on here.

Yes BUT what about VW legal costs if they win? I understand they can recover from from the plaintiff?

In this respect, unlikely VW legal would attempt to recover costs from individual litigants. However it is possible a future lollipop (As per USA) may be not available to those identified as part of a class action. EG Class action achieves $1000.00 But lollipop to individuals worth $1500.00.
OK, I'm dreaming re VAG even offering a lollipop as in USA. (VW although apparently is also making offers in England)
So I am trying to consider if VW or VAG will treat fairly those customers loyal to VW, but may be less considerate if part of a class action, then trying to later obtain an advantage from VAG.
