Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Looking at the price of GT Sport diesels & GTDs - the price doesn't seem to be affected that much. Not for the age & mileage of some of the vehicles.

The thing is the effects on health and hip pocket are real and getting worse. .
Some of us are none of the things you make us out to be certainly not a fanboi whatever that may be.

We are just owners who have unfortunately got caught in a not very nice situation. So should we be like several of you and carry on like a pork chop about about how many grams of whatever the cars may or may not emit and which we can do nothing about or just sit and wait to see what eventuates.
Raving on will fix nothing and not enhance any claims for compensation.

I prefer to wait and see what VW offer as a fix and compensation if any.

The owners who think that VW should buy their cars back or pay for the extras they have fitted are P***ing in the wind.

They were rapt with the cars up till now and all of a sudden they dont want them.

I like my two cars and am disappointed about what has happened but not enough to rant and rave about it.

If the solution is not good enough THEN is the time to start getting annoyed.

As for selling, my wagon is now worth about 40% of what I paid for it after 4 1/2 years so reckon thats not far off what it should be.

Oh yes they can — I learned to drive in a Model T — take your eye off the road and you're off the road, come to a steep hill, turn round and go up backwards, forget to retard the spark and break your wrist, carry spare water, for it boils at the drop of a hat etc. etc. At 25MPH it rattles, at 35 MPH you rattle.

Bought a 1923 Dodge 4 and couldn't believe how good it was — I didn't start rattling 'til 45 MPH, it had a starter and it didn't boil.

Both needed a head-off valve grind and decoke about every 8-10000 miles, neither had any worth-while brakes — if you wanted to stop you wrote to it, both were surprisingly good off-road vehicles.

Youse guys don't know how good you've got it...

LOL, not all of us are privileged financially and time wise to sample/collect & maintain vintage/classic vehicles!!! But hey, at least there aren't any emissions control soft/hardware to worry about because none of that new fangled sorcery existed back then!

I'd LOVE to get into collecting/restoring classic cars but the Minister for Finance aka She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed at home put the kibosh on that idea years ago.....

After the second world war, new cars had a long waiting list. My father had a preference for American cars & ordered a Ford V8. There was bribery around at the time & people paid dealers to move their name up the waiting list. Dad got tired of this & bought the new beetle back Vanguard with right hand gearshift on the column. In 1954 he bought a Vanguard Spacemaster. It's hard to believe now, but the instruction in the owners handbook was to have a valve grind at 5,000 miles from new.

Yup, a brother and several friends had them — had a TR2 myself in 1954 thru '57. Was fun, but you're right about the valve grinds.

Service every 500 miles, 3 months or 500 miles factory warranty (might have been 1000 — it's a long time ago and my memory's not what it was.

However, despite being more interesting, this discussion is getting way off topic. We'll be copping a rap on the knuckles...

Do you realise that it's not a Whirlpool forum here?

We're also forum where the VW Audi and Skoda enthusiasts come quite often, so be prepared that not everyone will agree with your attitude, as well as I know that not everyone agrees with me.

You think that some people are defending the VW for what they did. Maybe those people are more honest with themselves, more tolerant to others and more realistic.

It's hard to have no scandals and not the wrong doings in the world, the lies are part of people's life. That's a hard fact that you can count on. Yes, many of us are laying several times per day, some maybe once and then, but he/she is still a lier and I didn't say that. The scientist did.

I rather have the car maker who cheated on emissions but otherwise made a good car for me.

I don't disagree with VW diesel owners such as yourself being upset with VAG's actions and your potential losses but I'd question your impatience with VAG and therefore VWA coming up with a resolution and your course of action in posting in a negative manner on a VW owners forum. You've no doubt spent much time researching the issue and arriving at your various conclusions and venting about VAG and VWA but what effect does that have?

I endured a series of issues over a period of over seven years with the dealer group from whom I bought my first and second VWs that disadvantaged me financially culminating in a significant warranty claim being denied. You won't find a trace of those issues on here because I chose to address them in a calm, polite, detailed email to the Managing Director of the parent company of the dealer group rather than venting on here.

In that email, I detailed the history of the issues that I had encountered, pointed out my loyalty i.e. repeat vehicle purchases, that all services carried out by the dealer and that I was a potential purchaser of yet another VW but that their actions would potentially deter me from doing so.

The response was dramatic, an almost instant response from the Managing Director by email, that evening a call from the CEO of the dealer group and a half hour discussion about my frustration and the following morning, a call from the Service Manger to arrange a loan car to be dropped off that day at my office and my car to be picked up to have the warranty job done and as compensation, for the 75, 90 and 105,000KM services to be carried out free of charge.

My point is this, had you put as much time and effort into communicating with the powers that be at VWA as you have researching the issue and venting on VWW, it is possible that you may have received some sort of direct commitment towards a resolution of your issue.

My suggestion is, identify the name of the MD of VWA, work out their email address, write a detailed email outlining your situation and how VAGs actions have impacted you and send it, if you can't determine the email address send it by registered snail mail.

                                Cheers
