This one is a huge con job as anyone like myself who has been in the automotive industry will know those goodies cost the makers and dealers peanuts . Case in question I noticed an advertisement for a car the other day and the dealers said the rear view camera was an $892 option , pleeeease those cameras cost the makers $15 if you are lucky a length of wire $5 hooked up to the head unit in manufacture and some coding maybe $35 in total but you in the mean time have just lost the $1000 discount .

Hope the lawyers suck VW dry their arrogance over this will be their downfall. Also have to love how Audi Aust say anyone can call their customer service helpline VW Aust still says nothing PR 101 fail

Late this month is now, apparently, the deadline for the complete solution to be resolved and covering the significant variety of models, engines(?) and markets.
The 'client' distributors are in the same dark room, I suspect and certainly not in a position to say anything meaningful.

I've read quite a few articles that seem to me to be written by journalists who have no idea what they're talking about. Whoever wrote this article seems to have some idea.

Unfortunately it's already started to happen.

I've got a diesel Tiguan on order which was due to arrive in November. On October 2nd VW dropped it's price to $1000 less than when I ordered it two months ago - and that's just the list price, I'm sure dealers will now be doing some very attractive deals below list!

Then on October 3rd they suspended sales of the Diesel Tiguan.

You'll see from my posts above that I don't subscribe to all the media hype about the so called 'cheat device', and hope that for Australia at least the impact will prove to be minimal, and in fact at the moment the whole emissions thing is looking like the least of my worries!

Right now I've no idea when I'll get my car, and if the suspension lasts more than a couple of months I'll be getting a 2015 built car in 2016. I'm doubtful whether the price drop since I ordered will be passed onto me, or whether I'll be given a chance to cancel and get my deposit back if delivery is delayed beyond the original schedule, as the contract rules out both these things.

Meanwhile, I've heard nothing from the dealer or VW, all I know is what I've read in the media and on forums like this.

I echo what others have said above - sh*t happens, but it's how the company deals with it that matters, and so far I'm not impressed with the response, or rather lack of!

However, despite an alarming number of people/organisations around the world lining up to 'put the knife in' VW at the moment, there also seems to be a genuine following of VW loyalists (not least on this forum) who are willing to cut them a bit of slack, and give them time to get their act together and do the right thing. Despite this little vent of my frustrations, I still consider myself one of those, but my patience is wearing seriously thin!

Ouch. That's rough. I'd be asking for a discount on settlement. Nothing ventured nothing gained? Maybe you can wrangle some accessories out of the dealer? After all, the worst the dealer can do is tell you no, right?

I wonder if there is any redress for you under ACL if you've signed a sales contract the vehicle for X dollars, and the price of the vehicle subsequently drops to Y while you're still waiting for yours.

I suppose if you really want to get out of the contract, it's easy enough to do. You just need to go through it with a fine toothed comb and chances are you'll find errors/oversights/misrepresentation that you can rightly claim voids the contract.

I would argue misrepresentation by Volkswagen, for which you would be entitled to rescind the contract. This would mean you have the right to walk away, not to re-negotiate. Any attempt to re-negotiate could harm your right to rescind.

You signed for a diesel Tiguan based, in no small part, on the vehicle's fuel economy. The vehicle you will receive will not be as economical as the vehicle you thought you were buying. Get your money back, go look for something else.

If you can't find anything else you like, consider going back to VW and start negotiations again - but, to avoid complications, in the first instance you should go elsewhere.

They way the media is reporting it has definitely been blown way out of proportion. The matter is yet to be fully investigated but now everyone are finding all kinds of excuses to sue them to death or to brink. If the software is inactive for half or more of the cars or never used and they still pass emissions in some countries then quite frankly why just target VW when other independent tests have clearly shown that the majority of the other car manufacturers produce roughly the same output of NoX in real world driving scenarios? Sure they are not cheating or using cheat software but that is not to say they aren't using other methods to circumvent the lab tests.
I mean ffs, anyone heard of the Boeing/Ducommun scandal? Where the hell was the world media when this happened. As if Boeing had no idea about those dodgy parts and had about 300 737s in service.

It will depend on the fine(s) imposed and the cost of the fix.

Yes, there will be damage to the VW brand but time will fix this. Ford still exists after the Pinto cover-up. Chrysler still exists despite disconnecting the odometer on cars being used as rep mobiles then selling them as 'new'.. The list goes on..

It's a fact of life though - the internet and the way media uses it means that the puff and fluff of getting dramatic headlines is what drives clicks and revenue. Not saying it's right, it drives me nuts, but it is the way it is. Having said that, if VW had not deliberately set out to deceive then they would not have provided the ammunition for the web to grab a-hold of. It's not like they a) didn't know what they were doing or b) didn't know the potential consequences if caught. And whether other manufacturers are doing it or not - VW got caught...

Sure, everyone driving a TDI is driving the same safe car that it was before this blew up, but what rankles people is that VW crowed about how good they were when it was a lie - regardless of whether that lie has day to day impact on anyone, the car is not what it was described as, and would not have been allowed to be put on sale in countries with tight emission controls.

"My TDI is now worth $x thousand less than it was before; I have been deceived about driving a 'green' car - why should I NOT sue??"
