Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Considering the gearbox is not flashed as part of the recall, I'll also submit a vote for BS.

    • I had the DSG serviced as part of the 60k service when the recall was applied. Not entirely sure what was exactly done.

Yes, it is the 6sp DSG model.

Anyway, it is more than likely that my recollection prior to recall is not accurate.

      • They replace the oil and filter as part of the service. It's not flashed.

The recall is entirely a seperate thing.

I don't see anybody insulting or bullying buzzvic, I do see people questioning (as they are entitled to) his assertion that the road speed at a given RPM had changed, something that is a physical impossibility for a re-flash of the ECU to cause.

          • To be honest, it does not bother me as this is the nature of the internet and forums.

However, perhaps some members here may aassume that I am trolling the issue which is not true. My only intention is to share my experience and as I mentioned, my recollection may be wrong.

From my perspective, there is no point continuing this discussion in this thread. I have asked a question in the Passat thread and someone indicated that a similar question has been asked in Facebook (which is definitely not me, unless someone asked on my behalf).

Makes me wonder about the issue if someone else is asking a similar question in a different forum though.

Ohh look they did that to a 2015 Passat in the USA ......

Now to say something is “impossible “ implies either you have inside knowledge or are quoting the company line.
Or trying to silence any more negative talk?
Really we should put up a reason why it could have increased not just say “your wrong and shut up “! It’s how you will kill a forum.
Please explain, in your own words without tossing in links to articles that have no relevance to the specific question, how any re-flash, be it of engine and/or transmission can change the road speed of the vehicle at a given engine RPM.

I'll state it again, it's a physical impossibility, a re-flash cannot change a) the transmission overdrive ratio or b) the diff ratio or c) the rolling radius of the tyres, one or more of which would have to change in order to change the road speed of the vehicle at a given engine RPM.

              Cheers

              • As usual you're ractionis pure frantic fantasy. That is not what he described. He's described it the engine as running 200rpm higher at the same speed in the same gear which is impossible without a change in the gearing. It's purely a mechanical equation - engine revs x gear ratio x final drive ratio x tyre diameter = road speed. Like many things wth you simple maths isn't a strong point with you - I suggest you go back to what youseem to be good at...being a shill for the ambulance chasers.

                  • I agree - but the AU branch so far has their head so far up their own rectal cavities claiming that it the vehicles all fit within the required specifications at the time of sale.

                    Two aspects of this:
                    1) There's some reports that state that the vehicles wouldn't have fit within Euro5 compliance requirements even without the cheat at the time.
                    2) VW is defending itself only about the emissions but not saying anything about the ACCC requirements of the product is being sold as advertised.

Surely though the acceptance of fine in their own backyard and admitting wrong-doing is a strong indictment and poses merits toward argument where it comes to the court action that is currently in play here.

Mercedes hit with new diesel recall | GoAuto

I've always thought if one manufacturer is doing it, it's highly likely so are the others.

The whole fuel consumption/ emissions thing has become a joke since marketing departments have used it to sell cars. We also see ridiculous things like gearing selection that is designed to get the best test results, but leads to an unpleasant driving experience.

FC seems to have gone up as well. Pre update, my usual commute would be in the high 7s to low 8s where as now, it tends to within the high 8s. M2/SHT runs to the airport at 5 am in the morning used to yield around 5-5.5L/100km. It is now sitting around 6-6.5L/100km/h. I suspect due to the engine running faster at 100km/h along with whatever else is happening.
Have sorted out the increased FC when I brought the car back to the dealer.

Apparently my DPF was almost full and after they did a DPF regen, FC has come back to previously. Sits around the high 7s/100km now which is what it was previously.

Turns out to be an issue which the dealer has managed to solve.

                          Thanks all for the suggestions/info.

                              • 11 stretches of road affected with a potential more 15 kilometers of Road affected, out of 5300km in the area.

Vehicles affected are those with Euro 4 or earlier approval. Current model diesel engined vehicles not affected, most previous generation diesel engined vehicles not affected, no future generation Diesel engined vehicles affected.

interestingly, ‘diesel-gate’ vehicle’s aren’t affected since they were mostly euro 5 claimed emissions.

Sensational headlines are great arent they?
                                Cheers
