    Nice!
Great review. I think the caveat in all “performance” cars is that your hand will be in your pocket somewhat it’s the risk v reward equation at play and I’m not sure there’s an extremely reliable “performance” car in existence. Or you update/ upgrade at end of warranty if you’ve got the means.

Interesting thread even though I’m not a modder myself - my MY15 GTI Performance, well it’s actually my wife’s daily driver, is as stock as a rock and i intend to keep it that way. We've owned our Golf from new and it has about 83,000km on the clock.

A few general comments. Your car is an MY16 with the MIB2 6.5 inch infotainment system that includes Apple Carplay and Android Auto and the Keyless Start Stop. My May 2015 build MY15 still has the MIB1 with the 5.8 inch screen and no KESSY. The Panoramic Sunroof only became optional midway during the MY15 year and the DAP picked up blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert at the same time. As my signature alludes, my GTI has the leather, roof and Driver Assistance Package - all the boxes ticked! Dynaudio only became an option here on the Mk 7.5.

I watched the review, which I thought was a bit harsh, really. No rattling sunroof, peeling centre console or squeaking door handles on our GTI. However I have had two leaking water pumps and two leaking thermostat housings, which has meant four visits to our friendly VW dealer. The first three visits were under warranty and the last we had a long argument with VW Australia that meant we had to fork out 70% labour costs. Note that even though the water pump and thermostat housing appear to be the one unit, VW warranty deem it to be separate parts and will only replace the leaking part and not both parts. I believe there is now an aftermarket aluminum pump and housing available, similar to the Mk 6 aluminium unit. I’ll make sure I get one of those next time (and there will be a next time...)

Oh, the only other warranty issue was replacing a dead EFB battery. My wife, who has only owned Japanese cars before, is not impressed though she loves how the Golf drives. Me? Well, I’ve owned a few Alfa Romeos (still do) so I’m used to having the odd issue...

Wasn't aware of this - thanks for the info.

Turns out my GTI is fully optioned then as I have the sunroof, leather seats, blind spot/rear cross traffic alert, self parking feature, radar cruise. I thought I was just missing the Dynaudio but seems it wasnt an option at the time my car was purchased anyway.

Really interested in this aftermarket waterpump .... our TSI (same pump I've been told) at 3years and 2 months and 26K kms now have a leaking housing Its 2 months out of warranty so I will make some noise at VW but am very tempted to just fit a decent metal aftermarket part instead. Where did you hear about this?

Sorry Lucas for the thread hijack.

I have searched for the metal water pump previously and from what I can find its only available for the Gen 1 & 2 EA888, so may suit your Amarok - but not the Mk7 GTI/R engine. As far as I can find, its only plastic for the Mk7.

Its an aftermarket unit made by a company called Graf.

Surely VW will cover if it's out of warranty by a couple of months.

They should yes, but this is apparently another VW part that will fail on you many times over what is a reasonable life expectancy of the vehicle. They may cover 1, maybe even 2 but that only gets me to maybe 60,000km, what do I do for the rest of the expected 120,000km it will be with us? Pay $1200+ each time then? Rather find a quality replacement that will last for 100,000km ...

My specialist VW mechanic showed me a photo of the water pump, but I can’t recall where it came from - an overseas trade supplier, I think? It wasn’t for sale online.

I’ve seen the Mk 6 aluminium pumps online and I guess it is only a matter of time before there will be one for the Mk 7. I’m sure there will be plenty of demand....

My Mk7 GTI PP....turns out I cant resist the VAG.

After a 6 week or thereabouts wait, my CTS catback arrived on Monday morning just before I had to go to work. So I bailed from work a bit early on Monday afternoon and got the car up in the air and started work.

The exhaust was well packaged with all the mufflers bubble wrapped and then all pipes wrapped in a thick see through plastic to prevent rubbing while in transit.

When I had this exhaust on my old Mk6 GTI I had a few little concerns (resonator sat very low and a 2 bolt flange right under the rear suspension arms was unsightly) but thankfully on the Mk7 they have fixed these. Fitment is good, no issues, no rubbing. All the pipework sits nice and close to the chassis.

The exhaust looks great, and although probably one of the quietest aftermarket exhaust options for the GTI, has a nice subtle deep tone to it while cruising, but opens up on full throttle to reveal a great sound.

Once the mufflers have "burnt in" over a few weeks ill do a short video of how it sounds.

Love it. How’d it fit up to the DP?
                        Any issues/ time to fit?
Did you end up getting it through JT mods?

I was going to pull the trigger on this or some springs this week but some other priorities have taken the dollars away.

Yes the original exhaust tips were a joke. So puny. Looks much better now. Has a nice deep tone to it but probably only 20% louder than stock which is what I wanted.

Yep fitted up fine to the IE downpipe. I will at some stage get that small section where the pipe reduces to 2.5" removed and a 3" piece welded in though (i did this on my Mk6 GTI a few years back and it looks much neater plus added bonus of no leaks and remove some of the ugly pipe clamps etc).

No issues with fitment. It fitted up fine. Only thing I did was put about 3mm of washers on the rear exhaust hangers to space the exhaust down away from the rear subframe/suspension arms because it was very close and I thought it might rub. Because the exhaust comes in 3 pieces it actually makes it quite easy to install yourself. I installed the rear muffler first, then the bend pipe with the mid muffler, then the straight pipe up to the downpipe last. Took a couple of hours on the garage floor at night (would definitely be easier with some daylight).

And yes sourced through JTMods. If you put the item in your cart and fill in your details but then back out of the order, they send you a discount code to use. I paid $1260.

No rubbing or any issues at this stage - although ive probably only driven about 30km since the install. I'll take it for a decent drive over the weekend.

I just found this post on A1 Autohaus' facebook page saying they fitted an aftermarket alloy water pump to a Mk7 R. Very interested in this as my original waterpump has recently started to leak and im certainly not interested in replacing it with another plastic OEM pump.

Does anyone know who makes this pump? If not I will call A1 Autohaus and see if they can tell me.

But they are all for the Mk6 GTI. Nothing comes up for the Mk7 (with extensive Googling).
