  • Upgrade Woes

    Not the worst issue to be having, but I test drove 2 potential upgrades today, not overly impressed by either;

    2008 WRX
    - Cheap interior
    - Nice ride
    - Decent power stock, but comes in late
    - Did I say cheap interior?

    2008 S3
    - Nice to look at
    - Lovely to drive
    - Didn't have the power I was expecting, very liner, maybe just needs Gav's love?

I'd thought one of these would be my next step, but neither really did it for me. I want the S3, but the stock power didn't feel any faster than my Polo. On saying that, it probably was faster and i'm jut used to the Torque surge and FWD feel of my car, the Quattro feel is quite different.

    Any thoughts are welcome.

    I can't stop thining about the S3...

Perhaps I should better understand how raw my car is with its mods and that I'm not likely to find that in a stock VAG. An intake and stage 1 should help it be more like what I expect.

The feel of a tuned 9N3 Polo GTI is out of this world really ...... though in effect lack of grip and outright grunt means it is not as quick as it feels. I still miss mine and even though the Amarok is in reality almost as quick it never feels like it.

that said, I have driven stg1, stg 2 and stg 3 S3's and they get more manic as you go along the tuning route. Stg 1 feels (and is) quick, at least a second quicker to 100 then a Pog ..... stg 3 is just awesome.

Depending on the price of a 08 S3, a new 1.8TSI Polo GTI may be a better option. Decent power for a change (stg 1 185kw+/450NM+) with the joys of FWD but yet with wider track and tyres will have better grip than a 9N3.

Gti Pirelli? They go really well on stage 1 and are relatively light.

          Thanks guys...

I'm pretty set on AWD or RWD after my Polo. Need a change.

Talked to Mark @ recode, 200kw atw is realistic for tune and basic parts. Thats really what I wanted to hear. The tuned Golf R / S3 dynos have plenty of torque down low, so it shouldn't be too far from what I'm used to.

Oops didn't see that bit. What about this road legal formula ford with the 1.0L 3cyl ecoboost. It has the 1.6L fiesta ST's K03 on it so still some VAG action going on!

The only small RWD I could think of that I'd be interested in is the 1 series BMW's. You can get the 6cyl or the 1.6L PSA turbos (mini, 208gti) and wind up the wick on them.

Love to, but my budget does not extend to R pricing...

Was a member for 3 or 4 years, only recently let it lapse. If I do get the S3, will likely renew, this is a great forum for Audi as well as VW.

Let me guess... You're starting a family, buying a tiguan for the Mrs, & claiming the GTI as your own?
