Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I wouldnt have lopped it off, would have just bent the tab back
rears are way easier than front, you'll get them done in no time

      • Ah it's not as vicious as it sounds, I just levered out the plastic screws/clips and kept them for later.

        • Finally getting my Koni yellow suspension fitted today! Hopefully this will go well paired with H&R Springs and peform better than standard shocks.

No doubts it will do that. I went bilstein, but have driven a car with koni (and extensive other suspension work), was really nice. As they are adjustable, be mindful as to how they are adjusted to ensure consistency to.

            • How much did it set you back? Did you get it locally?? I really want to hear feedback. Especially comfort part.

              • Got it locally. Cost me 1185 fitted with wheel alignment. Comfort is very good. I have them on full soft at the front and quarter turned up to stiff on the rear. Very close to stock feel

                • Can the Konis be adjusted while mounted or do they need to be removed?
And what adjustments are possible? (rebound only, high/low compression...)

They are oncar adjustable. Fronts are easy with twisting at the top of the strut. Rears require the wheel off to make adjustments as I understand. They are twist adjustable. I believe rebound only, but someone else will need to confirm.

                      • Had this combo for a while now and still love it! They are damper adjustment only from memory. Near on stock feel when completely wound off then anywhere up to hard as a rock if that's your thing. As WHTPOLOGTI said 1 quarter turn on the rears for me as well as they have to removed to be adjusted, but 2 seconds to adjust the fronts! Loads of fun.

OK, so the fronts don't need a screw driver to turn an adjusting screw in the top of the strut (that's how my old ones were adjusted).
So for the rears, can you just undo the lower damper mounting bolt and turn the body? That shouldn't take long.
