Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Started looking at alternative cars
Drove a Holden CV8 Monaro and SS, both with 5.7L V8. Totally underwhelmed for suburban driving. The Monaro sounded beautiful.

            • Did the Audi TT front brake conversion (after painting them red to match the rears). Better feel when braking than the standard GTI items, and pedal has better feel now - brakes start working sooner on the pedal. Overall pretty happy. They REALLY fill up the standard GTI wheels though, looks impressive, lol.

              • Washed & waxed. Couldn't spot any paint swirls - investing in proper cleaning cloths/liquids has paid off even 2 years later.

They way I see it, you don't need UV lights to spot them in normal daylight, so it doesn't bother me if they come up under that sort of "microscope". I had a good look from various angles in daylight, & was happy with the results.

                            • Postage was about ~$210AUD, Damian from DPM was a pleasure to deal with. Order took about 4 weeks as KW Germany didn't have any stock of the GTI-specific 9N Polo kits when I ordered, so had to wait for them to make them. Tracking by FedEx every step of the way and the contents are very well protected (i.e. no bent struts)

Should have sprung for the Inox-Line coilovers with stainless steel bodies, but I figured we don't have a problem with salted roads out here plus I am not going to be winding them up and down every other day so if the threads get a bit stiff it doesn't matter

Are you tempted to fit a 6 speed gearbox from the GT version?
