Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • Either they fell off hence the innocence or some prick lost one of his so stole one of yours as they were too cheap to fork out for one. Otherwise, it could be school kids collecting them for some odd reason (I remember years ago there was a brief craze where kids stole the BMW and Merc badges off cars to collect or stick on their school diaries or sell to their mates).

        • Oh well, just rang the parts department, only $13 each so I ordered 2 of them

          • Its a true story cause my cousin was one of the culprits and thought it was cool at the time only to get an earful from me.

So if its $14 bucks each then the person who stole it (assuming that was the case but most probably not) must really be a world class cheapo. Hmm it reminds me of the time when some pricks kept stealing my tyre pressure valve covers quite a few years back when I parked my car at Springvale and again at Footscray!!! Suffice to say, I got fed up after replacing them (not that they were expensive) so I just put on the factory black plastic ones.

are you sure? the last time round I'm sure they were close to $35 or something stupid.

That's what the guy quoted me on the phone today. I asked for wheel caps for a Polo GTI and gave him my VIN, so we'll see what they get me!

EDIT: Total of $13.25 . That's from Camberwell VW, sounds like some of the other dealers are taking advantage!

                  • Got a set of roof racks and a bike carrier today, went with the Rhino Racks and a Thule 530 carrier. Holds the bike up very solidly and has key locks. Looks pretty funny with a bike on top of the Pog, as the bike is almost as tall as the Pog again

                        • Did benchtop test of car pc - everything works sweet as. Once I find an amp I can do the install.

                          - Intel D945GCLF2 - Intel Atom Processor 330
                          - Aywun MW-107 Mini-ITX Slimline Narrow Case
                          - Lilliput EBY701 VGA Touchscreen W/Back-up Camera Switch
                          - M2 PSU 150W
                          - Globalsat BU-353 GPS Receiver

I integrated the screen into a double din adapter i got off ebay - this just slides into the dash in place of the existing radio. I angled the screen down a bit and set it back as i noticed that the current radio gets sun directly on it - makes things a little hard to see sometimes.

I designed a skin to run on roadrunner front end - screen shot of main page with a ipod looking interface on drivers side for music control and a custom build of destinator as gps software

the "box" - it really is quite small 185mm x 230mm x 70mm - about as small as you can build for a 170x170mm motherboard, power supply and hard drive. This will sit under the dash on the passenger side between the heater unit and the glovebox. It is quite tidy inside and will have no probles with cooling as it is quite open

this is the second one of these i have done as i had one in my previous car - E30 BMW
