Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

But nice work it still came out great!
Thanks! I'm pretty happy with the outcome.
Agreed there's definitely more then 1 way to achieve this finish, I just went this way purely because I already had the necessary products already sitting around the house and if not you could get everything you need for $20 or under I bet.

    • Swiss cheesed my air box. Didn't seem to make much of a difference sound wise. Perhaps i should have used a bigger drill bit....

Hope you did the bottom half, not the top half.................................!!

        • Of course! Might take a look at whether a big hole in the bottom with some ducting would not suck any hot air

What I meant to convey was that air sucked in through holes made in the top half of the airbox will not pass through the filter element. Some people have made this mistake in the past.....................

            • Yeah I got that bit. Cheers for that.

Odd though, I was expecting to hear the factory Dv whooshing as well but not a peep from it

              • I did a lot of playing with the airbox, best option I found was to replace the top of the box with a 90degree section off the top off the MAF section onto a fabricated top section of the airbox onto a pod filter (similar to the Jabba Sport one). With the larger intake section to the front of the engine bay and opened intake flappy bit, this is all you need for standard turbo.

Anything else just sucks hot air and slows it down.

                IMO, YMMV

I did that to my RenaultSport 225 Cup. Used a 10cm hole saw, and drilled two holes. The sound was awesome.

                    • Finally decided that I need to have my clutch replaced. I've been living with it getting worse since I slipped it middle of last year, but today I put the order in for the ECS stage 1 cluch + 14lbs flywheel. I was on the fence about the 20.5lbs single mass one, but given how many of the 14lbs have been used on these forums, can't go wrong with what worked for others.

NB, was I meant to get the Essential basic stretch bolt kit as well? It won't ship for another day or two, so I should be right to tack it onto the order if I need it too.

Oh and will finally get that forge div valve installed thats been in the boot for a year too.

                          • Changed my gearbox oil. Filled with some lovely Redline MTL. Have to drive it a bit before it coats all the internals, feels good so far. Thanks Timiteo for the 17mm hex key
