  • Car didn't like the Pod filter where it was.

Removed the N75 Race, back to stock. Removed the bottom half of the airbox and made the connection to the airbox longer, made a better shield. Not something I find easy, but enjoying this mini project. The car seems happier with the stock N75 and better separation from the engine / turbo heat. Still hot under there when standing still, will have to have a look at improving the channelling of air to the filter, make sure its getting the access to cool air and the hot air is well segregated.

The initial spooling noise has become louder without the bottom half of the airbox, I feel like a jet-engine at 2500 revs. Its almost funny to hear the Polo spooling up at such low revs compared to the skylines (my boost sounds more like a skyline than any other car IMO).

    1st dodgy version:

    Current Dodgy version:

If the airbox does not go back in, I'll do it nicely with colour coded silocone and a heat shield made of a better material and more engineered to meet up with the bonnet lining, etc. For the testing its adequate.

For anyone else playing, I think the MAF would benefit from being further from the POD, I ran out of room to have another section to extend this distance. I think I need a 3" bend, something more than 45deg, but less than 90. Think I might be dreaming, but Ebay is full of interesting stuff...

    • Nice stuff mate, is that a 3A pod?

      Comment

      • yeah, 3A. Bought it over a month ago with the intent of everything else being fairly easy. I have not learned...

Not a lot of space to work with unless I point it down or do something with the battery. Atleast the battery is the original, so it will have to be replaced sometime...

The sheet I'm using as a heat shield is 300mm high, with some edges bent it fits quite well. Goes from the bonnet lining almost to the gear linkages. I think I'll have to get some 3" tubing from ebay, nothing in the hardware stores was going to work for me...

I think the latter heatshield being further away from the filter works better, but need to use a different material that won't transfer the heat so easily...

Quick thought, if I'm not using the normal intake route, I could probably centre the battery more...

        • Installed my lower honeycomb grills, finally. I still couldn't pull them off, and without wanting to remove the front bumper, garden shears were used to butcher the grills..... They gave up eventually.

Looks like it isn't worth doing the far sides of foglights, but the rest is. Hopefully in time they get a bit weathered, and you won't be able to notice some of the dodgy plastic cuts.
I used some small self tapering screws to attach the wind deflector (??) behind the drives side grill, onto the plastic sidewalls of the bumper.

Now.... time to find some more mods to do to it.

          • Got the decals and centrecaps sorted for the new wheels.

LOVE the colour, really comes out in the sun.

OZ Crono EVO, 17x8, et35. eBay specials that required a bit of love.

Now just for some rubber. 215/40, or 225/35?

if only they came in 15 inch..... they'd be light as fork!

go the wider rubber. grip > stance IMO (says he who loves all the stretched dubs that rock up to DOVW etc)
