Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

They're not expensive from the UK, anyone seen aftermarket options in this area for the Polo?
Surely the best option is just adjustable camber/caster pillowball tops, but this necessitates cutting down the little dome top above the strut mount to be able to make use of the adjustments (like Eddy has in his Pog). Im not averse to taking an angle grinder to the car, but I'm sure many would be..

Yeah, I'm not real keen on having to get the car engineered after doing that. I'm just going to change out the strut top bearings again. They aren't that expensive.

              • Isn't Eddy replacing his aftermarket adjustable camber/caster pillowball tops because his current ones click?

                • changed tyre pressure and swaybar settings today (again).
I'd been having issues with the sway bar bushes binding and came up with a quick solution to stop them drying, etc.

I stopped using the lithium grease from a can, went to the copper grease I've used on my brake parts and wrapped the bush / bar section with a tube cut from a latex glove. A cable tie at either end has kept them dry and working well for the last month. I took a little of the flat section of the bushes as I think there was too much friction from the bushes being bolted down hard. Happy with how freely they rotate when removed from the droplinks / mounts on the rear.

Todays findings: more traction and fun in suburban driving with sways on hard, tyre pressure down a few psi (my thinking is with the 8" wide tyres, I need to encourage more contact area with the lower psi's).

when I'm gainfully employed again, might start thinking about some grippy rubber for the front end. The Ku31's are good for the cost, but they are still a cheap tyre at the end of the day...

                  • Come down to Costco Auburn tyre centre, they sell Bridgestone and Michelin tyres for pretty cheap. Cant remember the price exactly but i remember Adrenalins were much cheaper than anywhere i could find.

                      • Detailing the Polo, have a show on today so spent this afternoon detailing the car and well this evening as well, many drinks and much nando's were consumed.

No before shots but rest assured it looked like crap until Dion started his magic.

                              • Got my TT's back from the powder coater, couldn't resist and went directly to the tyre shop
Pretty happy with the result for the relatively low cost outlay. Ended up going with Kumho KU19's.

Here are some ****ty iphone photos. Oh and don't bother pointing out that it badly needs lowering, I know this
