Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

So filled the boot of the S3 ready for some serious troubleshooting action in the sun. My man Will the South African Custom-Code master dealer said check the belt. Not sure if it was a random comment but I thought it would save me some time. Be ages to check all the fuses and minutes to check the belt.
Anyway, pulled the top cover off and stuck it in gear. pulled the car forward and the belt never moved. The alternator and bottom pulley are going round though. So at the very least I think there's teeth off the belt. At worst, there's teeth off the belt, the crank keyway is shagged and all the valves are bent.
So that took me about 5 minutes. Back in the car home to regroup the troops. A couple of calls were made and then I called the RACQ to revive my lapsed membership.
$115 to RACQ and about 30minutes after putting the phone down the towie calls to say he is on his way. An hour later the "Squib" as my eldest daughter calls it is back in the garage looking tough but silent.
Going up the ramp.
Loaded up
Back home on the drive
Outstanding effort by the towie to put it in the garage given the slope on the driveway.
Tool time, when it cools down a bit. I'll take the covers off for a looksee.

Sorry to hear mate. Lucky you got that spare engine sitting in ur garage. It's probably got a little grin on its face knowing it's about to get called into action.
I recall reading that with the piping on the front mounts inter coolers we couldn't fit the tow hooks, good to see we can in fact.Track Car: 06 Polo GTI Red Devil mkII

Gavin's cheapy but getting more expensive GTI
When you rang me this morning I got a feeling it'd be the belt cause it went pretty quick, and I can only think the hydraulic tensioner ****ting itself, keyway sheered off or the weakest link the belt.
Remember we had the discussion about contitechs ****ting itself prematurely.
Will be in touch with you for upgraded bits.

At least is should be a "simple" fix?
Just hope it's ok though as its about 160bucks+shipping or so for a set of SS exhaust valve made by Supertech or slightly cheaper ones by Osvat.============================> http://www.facebook.com/EuroCarModsAus <============================

VCDS gave a cam position sensor fault. Stupid ECU doesn't know what a bad belt is like.
Just creating a shopping list. No need for valves, got the spare head. So going to get rings, basic install kit and a manual tensioner conversion kit with a Gates racing belt.
Gavin
Will update on the maker of the belt tomorrow.
