  • Thanks Sean!

Scott, as Sean mentioned I have had a step by step approach to all the suspension mods which have all added to a great handling little vehicle which suits my driving style and application down to the ground. I have also played with alignment, toe and tyre pressures as
well to get the end result.

To answer your question regarding the springs matching the shocks, well tbh it's a bias option as I've only driven one other Polo with the
koni spring and koni shock combo other than the stock set up. Only difference I could see was the ride height on the koni/koni set up
    was a little higher.

And yes the fronts take a couple of seconds to adjust but you do have to unbolt the rears. That being said there is next to no weight in the polo's rear end as you know, so the rears were set between light to moderate and I've been happy with that and I have never felt the need to adjust in the years I have had them in.

As for the scope, well that's a huge yes to range and change in characteristics. I do a heap of mountain runs and hill climbs on the weekends and during the week normal crappy work commute driving. So during the week the fronts are wound fully off for comfort (when I
remember that is) which will take you very close to the stock set up. Then on the weekends..........well it's a whole other ball game!

It's a different vehicle even wound to half of the maximum. The car feels twice a heavy yet even more nimble somehow (once again remember the whole set up and it's geometry as Sean said) Turn in and feedback are amazing and is totally planted and predictable. To the point where I usually turn off the ESP when having fun.

I know it's very hard to know without driving it (which you're welcome to do if up this way) so all I can say is you will not be disappointed in any way with this set up!

    Hope this helps!

    Anthony.

    • hey sean and anthony, thanks very much for your feedback!

not to dismiss anyone else's setups at all, but im really liking the sound of those koni dampers!

thanks heaps for the detailed insight - especially regarding the damping adjustability

      thanks again,

      • Weekly update and happy to say new goodies have arrived!

So after much deliberation and a total lack of space behind the passanger side fog lamp I have decided to go with a short ram intake with a cold air feed I guess you could call it. Instead of the original plan of a true CAI due to the fact that there is no chance of an air filter fitting in the small cavity behind the fog lamp.

So went with a custom 3" aluminium MAF housing from ebay (thanks for the lead Troy!) just incase the urge to go stage 3 takes hold of me again.

So had to get a 2.75" to 3" silicone reducer to make the fit from the Forge TIP to the MAF and then to a 3A Racing Pod filter. These things have rave reveiws beating K&N, Apexi, Simota and a few more big name filters in flow testing by Auto Salon magazine a while back. And best of all they're dirt cheap!

        http://www.australianauto.com.au/HTM...hoot%20Out.pdf

        Here is the combo together

Freed up a heap of room in the bay

So next is to get the cold air feed from behind the fog lamp with the help of some 3" ducting

Once again there is bugger all room behind the fog lamp shown here

And this is the gap I can hopefully get the ducting through along side the washer reservoir and up into the engine bay

So to get more cold air I cut out some of the plastic veins in the fog lamp cover for the ducting to draw from

Gotta go now but will try to finish later, and massive thanks to Jimmy for meeting me at a servo for use of his MAF bolt tool cause I found out the hard way that it's not a standard T bolt.

        • Going to make a heat shield at all for that? I made one out of steel that looks great but decided to use a BMC OTA and the standard intake at front grill.

I was asking Jimmy about braided brake lines for my pig the other day and he said he was supposed to be doing some for you soon.. Where are you looking at getting hoses from/what could you find?

              • Sorry back now.

Jimmy you're like the VW Macgiver mate! Only bloke around with a huge vice in his van used to cut and file a bracket to support the pod in the engine bay on the spot. Beautiful to watch for me and the passers by!

Yes mate, going to get an aluminium air box made up with the ducting feeding air from the bottom. Would like to see your new set up too!

Will take some pics soon. I had to use a plastic reducer as i bought a 76mm elbow and my pipe joiner would not go into the tip! Bit ugly at the moment but it works. Will buy a reducer silicon elbow when i get time.

                      • Woke up early today to see if the 3" ducting actually had a chance of fitting. Next to no room and heaps of tight angles even with the entire battery tray removed

Just getting the ducting down was a absolute bitch, lost plenty of skin but just happy it fit. Seriously not a millimetre of space left.

Next had to saw the battery tray.

                        Final result!

And now taking cold air from behind the fog lamp!

Really surprised it all fit to honest, but bloody glad it did!

So how does it drive? Well the car pulls stronger, alot stronger! Right through the rev range and it gets more mental the more it spools. I can't believe I'm in a 1.8l displacement vehicle now. And still with Ko3. I know this is just a butt dyno opion so I will back up with some dyno results and logging for the naysayers. Oh and the sound..........................total porn lol!

So next up the air box to block out any hot air floating around.

                        • Awesome! This has been a long term ambition of mine, but somehow without the cost...?

Nice work dude, good to see new things still being done.

Funny timing, bought myself a 3A pod filter last week, its sitting at my work (well, my ex work, was made redundant on Monday).

Could you do me a favour and give a bit more info on where you got the MAF housing and flex pipe, etc from? Not sure I'll get a chance to go all the way down this path, but slapping a pod filter on for a few days interests me to start with.
