    Does this help?

Take a photo of the sticker on your RCD510 and compare the PIN assignments to my RNS510 photo. Feel free to post photos here for reference as well.

Ahh wish isaw this earlier cool might do it this week... I'm getting a mate to come help me next weekend now so should be alright, for now I will be able to see my calls and use the iPhone mic in the mean time.

      Does the RCD510 do SMSs?

Nope, only the RNS510 does it I think, but that's only if you get the 9WZ Bluetooth and use RSAP/Remote Sim mode.

Found a nice app for Android called A2DP Volume that has some handy options and can read text messages as they arrive (haven't had a chance to test yet).

Noice...!!! I have iPhone 4. Not to bothered about SMSs just want the call feature. Don't even really want the voice activation... I think a pause button is a lot better

Okay received my kit and trim tools so ready for a weekend install.

For those of us with manual air con (77tsi and RCD510) is there enough room to install the unit behind the controls or are we looking at a more painful under the seat jobby?

I installed mine behind the climate control unit so my guess is the normal AC should be fine

I have been reading through the guides and it mentions it fits behind the auto but not the manual controls.

The bit that scares me is the mic as I am worried I am going to brake the cover on the roof light.

That should be fine, where you have to be careful is removing the surround radio trim, some of the clips might come off with the trim.

Ok thanks. I have plugged everything in to test before i start routing cables.

Headunit now has the phone option available but it says "error no phone available or connected". Have tried 2 phones which can see each other but not the headunit...any ideas?

Nevermind i just realised the car needs to be running (not just stereo on) for it to work

                    • Don't you need to pair the phone via the MFD anyway?

I don't think so because I have the 77tsi with the basic MFD. Also I can't seem to get my crappy work phone (nokia 6120) to connect but my gf's sgs2 works fine.

Surprisingly long range on the bluetooth. I accidently made a call from my gfs phone when she had it inside the house

                        • If someone has a kit handy (or someone that is getting one) can you please do me a favour and have a look at the adapter loom that you get for the stereo and tell me the part number for the quadblock connectors. I know that I can order the female end as its part of the original look, but I cannot find the male side.

Only reason why I ask is that I want to clean up my OPS installation that I have recently done by adapting the loom rather than soldering in to the existing one and I am getting the wired from the instrument cluster, so i need both the male plug and the female one. I can get the female one as once again, its part of the loom and VW sell it, but its opposite number they dont seem to sell as why would you ever need it given the male end if actually part of the instrument cluster.

I think someone like AMP / TYCO make the connector and its not specific to VW as if you google the part number, a lot of other companies use it ..

                          TIA

If you're in need of any 6n1 parts, odds are that I am going to have them (dismantling 2 at the moment)

                          • That was some effort getting the mic and cable in!

                            • Hi All, I have just fitted the 9w7 bluetooth kit to my Passat R36 Wagon. It has the RNS510 with reversing camera. I bought the kit from VAG NAVISYSTEMS. All went well with the fit but when it came time to code it, the guys at my local VW service centre spent over an hour on it but had no luck. Their VAG system wouldn't recognise the bluetooth unit. Has anyone else had issues with coding?
                              Cheers.
